I used this DVD/CD/SACD player for several years and it really does sound very nice. The Vacuum State Level 4 modification is excellent. The problem, as is very common with this unit, is the tired laser needs to be replaced. It plays CD's fine, but has much difficulty playing the SACD layer of hybrid discs. I checked with Warren Gregoire (800-634-0094) and it can be replaced for $200. In addition, it can be upgraded to VSE Level 5 for $500 or all the way to Level 7 for $1000. I moved to a server-based system so never pursued any of this.
