Is this the review we've been waiting for?
« on: 10 Jun 2012, 01:11 am »
I got the current issue of TAS today in the mail. I just started looking at it tonight, and among the first few pages it gave the short bullet list of what was upcoming in the next issue. There it was "Van Alstine electronics". Frank, can you spill enough beans at this point to tell us if this is the 600R review we've been waiting for?

Actually there are three reviews in the works right now.

One in The Absolute Sound, another in Enjoy the Music, and another in Audiophile Voice.

You will need to wait until the reviews are published before I can make any further comments.

Regards,

Frank Van Alstine

I bet if this has the IEC line cord, the reviewers will of course swap a line cord and proclaim majestic things occur.  Just because, they can.  And they want to keep the wire companys in business, cus they advertise with em.  AC cords ALWAYS sound better than the perfectly fine one a mfg uses.  When does it end?

Don't think I've ever seen TAS do that, actually.

Your knowledge of the publishing industry is somewhat limited.  When I worked for TAS we were told to evaluate components as they came from the manufacturer.  Many companies, like ARC, CJ, etc etc, always ask that we evaluate their components with the standard issue power cord - something we always comply with.

Sue Kroft I believe reviewed a DAC from AVA, she had to comment on just how much better it would be with a better line cord.  O yeah.   Some joker in Stereophile this month just reviewed ANOTHER $150,000 TT!!! And of course they replaced the platter rmat with some different one, and WOW, the TT just came alive! It never ends, with the comedy. All entertaining.

It's always disappointing when that happens.

It reminds me of when I worked in the advertising world.  No matter how much we had a shot dialed in, the art director always had to change SOMETHING.

Would be a lot nicer if TAS  Actually tested  components  reviewed , would love to see a power cube test done on the  AVA ...600R

I have no idea what that is, but is it a measurement AVA could provide you? You could always ask for one.

Have you listened to that turntable with the two platter mats that the reviewer was writing about? I would assume that you have if you are willing to conclude that her opinion was "comedic." Or do you just enjoy the feeling of superiority that you derive from sneering at people and passing judgment without evidence?
