These sound great when driven directly from a preamp, computer or in a home theater. They eliminate the need for amplifiers and plug directly into the wall.Recently refinished using furniture grade cherry wood veneers they have a four coat lacquer finish. They have also received new sonically transparent grills and upgraded RCA connectors. The result is a very contemporary and decor friendly speaker. The drivers and internal amps were inspected and not modified as they are in full working order.
This is an audiophile quality full range speaker system. Each speaker has two separate 70 watt Class AA amplifiers-one for bass, one for the tweeter- total 280 watts.Unique features include adjustable switches for music sensing, free standing or near wall placement, float-able chassis ground and 10 adjustable response curves to fit room acoustics making them very flexible. They are designed for home, not studio use, unlike most active speakers so will match well with all all home stereo components . Original retail $1625 US/$2000 Cdn.in the early 90's .Made in Britain
Given the built in amplifiers they weigh about 30 lbs. each .They are deep and narrow with dimensions of 15 1/4" high x 12 5/8" deep x 7 1/8" wide

leaving on my trip soon so if interested please contact - additional photos available as well - great for a 2nd system or home theater taking the load off  a receiver without having to add separate amps.

Those aperiodic vents at the bottom?

Dave - they are the only vents on the speakers so , while no expert, I presume they are as you say. Brian

I've owned Meridian MTM active speakers, their M20's, for a lotta years.  While I've flirted with replacing them, I just can't find a real reason why I should.  I drive their onboard amps with an Audio Research pre.  I can testify to Meridian's build quality, engineering and sound.  At the asking price, this is a stupendous buy.  They will play louder and cleaner than you might imagine looking at their size and their dynamic capabilities can be very satifying in up to a medium size room I would venture.

I am leaving on an extended vacation next week - end of June- so will be removing the posting mid-week - if interested in these speakers this is a good time to contact me as it is probably the best time to arrange as inexpensive as possible shipping as I will be traveling through Pacific North West and can ship from Canada or US so $585 + actual shipping costs
