Frank, or anyone who might know, what is the difference between the Transcendence 8 and the Transcendence 8+ please?  They seem to share the same external design and functions.  Was it change in circuitry, components, or something else?

Thanks........Peter

Change in tubes to the 6CG7's. That's what I use.

This means tubes can simply be changed in the T8 to make it a T8+ or circuits were also changed to accommodate these tubes?

If your unit uses 6N1P's then you can simply change the tubes, EXCEPT the 6CG7's are bigger (except for Maxda/Brimars) and the top won't fit without spacers.

Some folks changed out the tube sockets for a lower profile one and modded their unit.

Before the 6N1P's, the T8 used 12AT7's, and I'm not sure how or if you can upgrade.

Thanks Martyo.  Exactly what I need to know.  It is a T8 with 6N1P that I am looking at:

That tag is from your 12" wide SLP (IIRC) The + is for a change of grounding scheme in the later 6n1p 17" wide T8. I had the old and now have the +. The use of 6CG7, 6922, ECC88 and such are all in the family and no upgrade, just a new motherboard in a larger chassis with a ground wire tranversing the board make up the + monicer.

I believe it is the newer, wider chasis.  You can verify.  Here is a photo of most of the front:

That is the full size chassis. (The volumn was on the right in the small chassis. There wasn't room for the remote in the small chassis either IIRC) Frank can verify from the serial #.  8)

The serial number says June, 2009 production.  Just at the end of its three year warranty time.

The guys are correct, the + upgrade changed from 6N1P tubes to 6CG7 tubes, requiring shorter board spacers and low profile tube sockets to make this possible with the cover on.  Prior to that some mother board wiring was changed to allow the use of 6V tubes rather than the original 12V tubes.

By the way, I have heard from a very reliable source that the best tubes for the T8+ are old new stock clear top RCA 6CG7 tubes.

Thanks Martyo and Frank,

Seems like a good deal since I would basically be getting an 8+.  I wouldn't mind using spacers for the cover if I changed tubes.

I tried a few NOS in the T8 and Ultra DAC. Mazda/Brimar, the RCA clear tops, and Amperex were all THE choice at one time. For quite awhile now I'm back to the current stock EH's. I used to prefer NOS.  8)
