Can anyone recommend a CD jukebox or Mega-changer? I believe Sony have a model that handles 400 CDs, is this any good and are there any others? I'm not expecting audiophile quality and until there are hard-disk audio servers that can accomodate this amount of software without lossy compression (at a reasonable price!), I feel this is a viable alternative. What do you think?

I had a 301 disc Pioneer (Pd-F19) that was a nice player. The carousel was pretty quiet compared to the Sony's & Kenwood's I've seen.

Forgot to mention I only sold it because I never used it (don't listen to music much at all), not because I had any problems with it.

I have the 400-disc CD/SACD/DVD player, the DVP-CX777ES.  Had it modded by Steve Nugent, which significantly improved redbook playback.  Actually had it for sale for a while (fell hard for Nugent's modded S7700 while the 777ES was being modded), but decided to keep it.  

I use it as a transport, though Nugent tells me the analog outs are much, much improved and rival his reference unit.  IMO, the sound in MUCH improved over the stock unit (whcih wasn't particularly good), and DVD video is spectacular on my Sammy DLP.  I decided to keep it because the audio portion is more than acceptable after mods, and for the convenience of storing DVDs in the same place I play them.

I'm told SACD playback is very good, even on the unmodded units, but I haven't used the analog outs to find out.

I have a Sony ES series megachanger that I bought used from the HD forum a couple of years ago.  I was going to buy an upsampler and DAC too, but I was very happy with the quality of the sound in my casual listening system.

The thing which really made it work was hooking it up to an old laptop with a Slink-e (see www.Nirvis.com).  My laptop is hooked up with a wireless card to the internet and with the Nirvis Jukebox software automatically built a database of every CD, artist, and track.  I am not associated with Nirvis in any way, but I highly recommend the Sony, Slink-e, laptop, internet arrangement.  You can build playlists with your favorite songs from different CDs, print off lists of CDs and artists, search for an artist (it even finds them on compilation CDs like Woodstock or Montery Pop), and so on.  And you no longer need to find the CD, get it out of the case, load it, etc.

I have a M555ES as well, great changer, and with a few tricks and SuperNudeList I have found a way to the play lists on the fly with a Pronto Remote, and you can save 3 different play lists with up to 32 entries per list.
