Up for sale is my custom Duet Receiver and power supply. Built for me by Pat from Analog Research-Technology. This isn't a run of the mill Squeezbox upgrade. The Duet has within it a custom PCB with a precision reclocking circuit, and a real 75 Ohm BNC output. According to Pat, with this set of internal modifications there is no deterministic jitter in the Receiver. The jitter at the output itself is less than 1/3 of stock. Anyone who knows Pat and his company knows he is no B.S. artist - he's a real honest to goodness digital design expert. I have no reason to doubt this information. This has been my main digital source until recently.

The power supply is a custom, extreme low noise discrete design, also by Pat. No copy of a three terminal regulator design from a Linear Technologies engineering document! It is actually two separate regulator sections - one for the positive rail, the other for the negative (including separate transformers). The output is a 4 wire voltage sensing type to keep the voltage at the very input to the Receiver in tight regulation.

Both the Receiver and the power supply are in 9/10 condition. The Controller is not being offered as part of this sale. The Receiver cannot be used with the stock supply.

Why am I selling? After 2+ years of using this great digital streamer, I finally found a network DAC that gave it a run for its money - a PS Audio PWD Mk.II with Bridge. That's what I'm using now.

Price for the Receiver and power supply is plus shipping, plus 3% PayPal. U.S. sales only.

Pat's duet modification is, in a word, AWESOME!  I have two and they sound really really good.  For 16/44 it rivals and maybe slightly edges my Bolder modded Touch.  Of course, with hi rez sources the Touch is better since the Duet can't do hi rez.

Tony, I've been thinking of the PS Audio, but my Duet or Touch into my Bolder modded Eastern Electric is keeping me happy for now...

Ajay, I agree. I've had nothing but great listening for the last two years. The PWD is a great piece of gear - sounds absolutely awesome, but in terms of bang for the buck I'd been very happy with the AR-T set up. Where Slimdevices / Logitech has it all over PSA (right now) is the server software. Squeezebox Server / SqueezeCenter / Logitech Media Server has been a thing of beauty.

Huge price drop! This will get you networked Redbook CD performance that is unmatched at anywhere near the price.

Does that BNC mod mean you have to use a BNC connector, or can you use a standard RCA spdif cable?  I guess if the latter you can use a BNC adaptor?

Can the power supply be used w/ a stock duet, or just this modded one?

Can the power supply be used w/ anything else other than the duet?

Reason for all these questions is I have a duet, but am interested in quality mods & power supply upgrades in general.  Been looking for one for my Bel Canto 1.5 as well that has a DC barrel plug and cheap switching power supply & don't want to spend mega $ on the Bel Canto VBS.

Thanks

The output connector is BNC. If you use a RCA digital cable you will need an adapter, which can be found with little trouble.

The power supply is purpose built for this Duet and could only be used with another if a pigtail is fashioned to adapt the custom output ends to a standard Squeezebox power connector.

The AR-T Duet was Pat's all out assault on creating as perfect a digital transport as was possible with the Duet. It's a pretty clever piece of musical engineering.

Received quickly & in excellent condition from Tony.  I did an A/B vs a stock duet & there really is no comparison.  So much better in every important way.  As good as my Mac Mini using a good standalone USB / PDIF converter. Money well spent.

Thanks Jon. Glad it found a good home.
