Just wonder if James or Mike could jump in here, I discovered the pre section of the (my) B60 to have a much lower output than the BP25, not too sure if this is just a matter of changing output resisters or if in fact the BP25 is indeed a more powerful pre-amp, do not really see why, for unity gain for example the B60 dial would need be at 2-3 o'clock to match the BP25's at 10 o'clock on the dial for moderate to loud listening.
But if the B60 pre matched the BP25 it would IMO be a an even better integrated for harder to run speakers (or headphones) as the B60 amp section performed extremely well with the BP25 obtaining much better low end extension, open midrange and top end clarity running the Dynaudio Special 25s (ohms and a sensitivity of 88dB/2.83V/m) at loud levels, to be honest I did not perceive any immediate differences when using the 4BSST in my 10' x 15' room
Just to quote myself from a recent post
Just another follow up on the 2BLP pro/BP25P combo compared to the B60 and then the B60amp/BP25P combo.
In comparison the B60 used as an integrate as I mentioned when powering the Dynaudio 25s needs to be dialed to about 2-3 o’clock to match parity with the 2BLP/BP25 or 4BSST/BP25 when the BP25 is at 10 o’clock, at which point the B60 runs out of steam.
Now, curiously though when running just the amp section of the B60 from the BP25 it matches the 2BLP (as it should) and the 4BSST, therefore the B60 amp, 2BLP and 4BSST obtain the same loudness (unity gain) on the dial at 10 o’clock when used with the BP25.
The B60’s preamp section when used to run the 4BSST or 2PLP is the same as using the B60 on its own; the volume is at 2-3 o’clock.
The reason I thought I would post this is for those considering on using the B60 as a pre-amp if moving up to a larger amp, now I do not know if this applies to all B60s or just my unit but I can see problems in not achieving enough gain with inefficient speakers or some sources.(maybe James or Mike can answer that one.)
The amp section of the B60 when powered with the BP25 sounds excellent by the way with more than enough gain and in-fact plenty to spare.
(One reason I’m trying all these combinations is that I’m waiting on an AVP and just wanted to make sure that levels match when used with same source /pre for the 2BLP (surrounds), B60(amp section for possible center and rear) and 4BSST(mains), they do.)
