My 332 has developed a hum in the left channel Levinsons service partner
said it would cost $1600 to fix

I have the same problem for my amp, and I just find a local hi-fi store to fix it with only 200 bucks, so I recommend you to check with local service store to see if you can get the cheaper price.

the humming is not an uncommon problem with the Levinsons. I think that they charge a flat rate for repair no matter what the problem is. I once sent a monoblack to them for repair beacause it was creating a fluttering sound through the tweeter. When I got it back the problem was still there. Needless to say I wasn't impressed.
I'd try and find somewhere relatively local if you can. If you fancy a road trip or want to send it somewhere try St Louis Computronics is St Louis Mo. Jeff is really good with amps and is reasonably priced. You can get his contact details at

Brutal Fridays.
Sounds like the 300s series of ML has a lot of problems. Check out this Audiogon thread:

Here's hoping you can find a cheaper place for the repair.
