the existing cable going to the two speakers ive ran out the back added two new cables to the internal speakers and ran out the back to i connected the existing cables to the two new speakers i was going to use and never got sound but when i connected them to the cables coming from the internal speakers then two new ones worked.  any ideas why that would be?

Please try this method.  It's a better solution.

I have same problem and connected my computer speakers to rcas out but that doesn't let me control volume with remote. Can I disconnect amp in computer speakers and power them with the amp in the tv, with tv speakers disconnected?

Half of the TVs out there only have a digital audio output (most often optical).  Of the sets that also have an analog audio output (or only an analog audio output), a number of those will let you select either Fixed or Variable output in the audio setup menu.

As far as using the internal TV amplifier to power passive speakers (or computer speakers with the amplifier removed from the circuit), it will depend on the matchup of speaker impedance and sensitivity.  Internal TV audio amplifiers are generally very closely matched to the internal speakers and aren't able to work with the wider variety of speaker loads that most standalone amplifiers can accommodate.

I ended up connecting cable box audio out (rca connectors) to an integrated amp with external speakers. Keep amp volume all the way up and control cable box volume with cable box remote. I used an integrated because i also connected my dvd player to it, which i control the volume for that with the integrated remote.

I've heard of "Sound Bars" and also have listened to a dozen models from a $100 Visio to a $2000 Yamaha.  The sound quality ranges from barely better than the internal speakers to having pretty good sound, but not good sound for the money spent.

If you are willing to pay more for a compact package with fewer wires then they are one possible solution.  I directly compared a few low end models (the $100 Visio and a $250 Panasonic with wireless subwoofer) and they both had disappointing sound compared to small bookshelf speakers with 4" midbass and 1" tweeter.

I've only heard a Samsung model I gave as a gift, it was actually a pretty good improvement over the Samsung TV speakers.  I do agree though, that if the room and budget, an amp and speakers would be better.  Have you ever heard one of the.... is it Rvox or something like that which is a very compact sound bar?  They get really good reviews.  I've also wondered about the expensive Yamaha, one could do a lot with over $1k so a sound bar would have to be impressive.

For $100 something like this will probably be a huge step up over the TV speakers.

http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666079695&XID=A:404255:CJ&ref=http://bensbargains.net/merchants/sony-coupons-69/

If you want simpler but more expensive get a pair of AudioEngine A5+ They are remote controlled powered speakers.

For $100 something like this [Sony CMT-MX500i] will probably be a huge step up over the TV speakers.

Probably.  The one negative I see to this particular unit is that the only audio input is on the front panel.
