Dark Shadows
« on: 13 May 2012, 03:32 am »
Just returned from Manhattan with my 6 year old son in tow and we did "Dark Shadows."
I have heard a little from the old series, it was still in reruns when I was a young college lad and now this.  As the NPR report said, it is a mix that contains the dark brooding qualities of the old TV series and yet, it still has, somewhat not too deep beneath its surface, plenty of double entendres that will make the older views laugh off.
It is the not too typical Burton movie with its perennially dark decor but its recall of the hey days of the crazy 70s also brings a dash of pizazz while escaping the craziness of the later disco era.
My son did not fall asleep even after a full day of walking, nor did I.
I say it is a nice way of spending a good 2 hours.  The soundtrack, is epic for all those who recall the 70s and who were adolescents in the early 80s.   :thumb:

PS:  Johnny Depp's role and acting is classic Depp a la vein of Edward Scissorhands.
The newcomer to Hollywood, Bella Heathcote as Victoria Winters is truly a lovable heroine like all Tim Burton's creations but in this case representing someone in flesh in blood vs the animated puppet heroine Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

My wife and I took this in on the weekend.   All I can say is that it was a lot of fun!  Definitely worth seeing.
