i came in to the audio world by pure accident.  my brother bought a sony hts and i thought it was wonderful.  not to be out done..i went out and bought a low end onkyo hts.  now i want my system too sound good so i get on the internet and..bamm..here i am.  i start seeing all of these diy projects that can be done to receivers and speakers to make them the best that they can be and think this is great.  NOT!  i call my friendly onkyo usa and find out i can't get crapp from these people.  for instance..i just called them up to get an impedance curve on my speakers.  the lady ask, what is the model?  i tell her that i don't know but they are the speakers that came with the my particular hts.  she presses a couple of buttons and tells me that they don't have that info for my speakers.  now i'm cool because i'm thinking..ok this is not top of the line onkyo.  so i ask do you have impedance curve info on any of your equipment.  she punches a couple of more buttons and gives me that infamous.."NO".  now this isn't the first time i've called these people.  a couple of wks ago i called to get a copy or schematic for my reciever so that i could change out my power cord.  not only would she not give me any info on the schematic..which she told me she had..but said that she would not help me any further if i was trying to alter one of their products.  what a load of crapp!  oh!  and did i mention that they weren't friendly or helpful except when i was looking to buy one of their systems.  their customer service sucks.  anyway do you guys know of anyone that has a trade in program?  can anyone tell me of a brand that doesn't forget about you after the sale?
sorry it is so long and if it's in the wrong forum please feel free to move.

Every single manufacturer here will take care of you before, during and after the sale.

Some (like VMPS, and Bolder)  but not all here have a trade up program.

Are you looking for speakers now, or a receiver?

That may be true, but I will bet none of them have a lady in customer service who's job is to put you on hold, punch some buttons, and eventually come back to you to tell you 'No' or 'I don't know'.

What's your price range and will you be pairing it with your Onkyo receiver?

If so can you tell us the specs again on it?

What size room will they be in, how loud do you play your music, what types of music do you listen to, and will these be doing duty as HT speakers?

How many speakers are you looking for?

Sorry for all the questions, but it will really help us help you.

hi sac1973, if you find something you like from the mfgs here, be sure to check www.harmonicdiscord.com for more info/reviews.  This is the place to ask current questions, however.

Someday I want to build those Audio Review DIY speakers that Ed Frias designed.   The reviews were over the top!   Anyone here have them?

I think alot of the bigger conglomerate's are like you have mentioned.Kinda like trade secrecy and the ability to steal their designs.

In my experience buying things that can be easily modified by knowledgable people has always worked best.

There have been post I have read about people that have spent $1,000's only to find out latter that their neigbors system's sound better for 1/4 of the price they paid.

Does help to do your research before making any serious purchases.Sometimes it takes rebuiding to get the sound your after and once you have it try not to &*(( with it!

Still a hobby that keeps my intrest after 25+ yrs.!

Happy Hunting!
