"For collectors like Dilla and Peel, the act of accumulation-- building a library or simply hoarding-- is as much a part of the appeal as is actually listening to (or "using") the music."

Thanks for the link. Reading that bit above feels good, and how true it is for some of us. Of course some of us have records that might not get played during our time, but the value goes well beyond that. Ah, the perfect rationalization for us vinyl nuts.

Rim - You're O.K. as long as you have everything catalogued and within easy reach. It only becomes hoarding when it is stacked any and every where without any actual accounting.

Of course, if you remain unconvinced and are seeking a cure, you can send your hoard to me for careful cataloguing and loving archival.

Do you still have my address?

If vinyl is all you have you probably are'nt a hoarder. I've always been intrigued by it so I read a book about it, and there's TV shows on it too, it's in vogue now. But hoarders will usually not limit themselves to one specific item, it's like object attachments they can't break- they buy stuff, they steal stuff, they carry in stuff off the street, and most importantly refuse to give up or throw anything out, some refuse to throw out their own trash because they feel it's part of them- sometimes including toilet paper and sanitary napkins. Hoarding is seperate from OC disorder (obsessive compulsive) but some people who have one have the other too. There is a distinction between hoarders and collectors.
I liked the quote I posted, because I was like , what a concept, buying the record without ever having to worry about playing it!
