All,

I'm looking for a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing chair.  Even though there is one thread on the site that talked about chairs, it didn't give enough info on the Perfect Chair.

Any opinion on this chair?  I've already ruled out Herman Miller Eames (expensive & doesn't recline).  I don't want anything too bulky either.

I never sat in it but it sure looks cool.  It reminds me of the chair from the commercial where the guy is reclining in front of his stereo, the music is blasting and his hair and clothes are being blown back by the sound.

$1499.00 is pretty spendy, but if you gotta' have it, ya' gotta have it.

If you can live with a simpler design, you can have the ultra comfy zero gravity feel from France's Lafuma.  Terrificly comfortable and passably good looking enough for indoor environs.

Take it from something of a competitor of theirs, they are verrrrry comfy.

Is "zero gravity" just a marketing term or is that a generic design concept that you chair-type people are wont to use??
I assume it has to do with spreading one's weight out  evenly???

$1,499 is a lot of bills---if you go on the net, it can be had for $1299 (shipping included) or $899 for a refurbished (+$150 shipping).  Of course, new chairs have a 3-year warranty compare with a 6-month for a refurbished.  I want a chair that's functional (comfort) and can fit in with a room's decor easily.  sigh....lots of $$$$

Yep, the zero gravity moniker was coined due to the fact that the chair doesn't exert pressure at just one point (the seat cushion) but spreads the load evenly over your whole carcass which is why they are so comfortable. Only problem is that they can be over relaxing, inducing a state of near uphoria in the right conditions.. swiftly followed by hours of restful sleep

Yep Tonto, kyyuan and Smeggy got it pretty much right as far as I know.

We don't make zero gravity chairs and it's not an industry-wide chair design that all are familiar with.  Given the shape, it pretty much precludes any type of zero gravity chair from being portable...and that's what we make.

It is also more costly due to the specific subframe and shape involved.

It is really comfy tho,; I've sat in them many times.  I've not sat in the $1300-1500 jobber here, but it looks darn nice.   The $139-179 Lafuma is great, too.  There is no applicable patent on this design, so it's just a matter of time when you see lightweight ones for $50.  I've been offered nice, inexpensive Chinese designed ones many times, but have passed.  It's just not our market.

kyyuan, a few months in that chair, and you may have the same type of fat, stupid and lazy ass that us chair professionals dream of.  But, we are pros and it's called R & D: laymen, please be extremely careful.

A very similar chair to the Lafuma can be found at Lowe's for $69.  It's called a 'cloud 9'.  It really is one the most comfy outdoor chairs I've ever sat in but, it's outdoor furniture.... you know, like aluminum tubular, folding legs, etc... Am I wrong about the Lafuma?  

That'd make this like comparing a 69-150 dollar nylon mesh outdoor lounge chair to a 1500 dollar hi-tech, beatifully finished, leather, high-style chair... ?  You might as well get the matching umbrella as acoustic treatment for the room!

It looks really comfy, but it doesn't look like it would be a very good listening/movie watching chair.  Any back that extends up past ear level will reflect sounds and prevent the proper surround sound from your rear speakers.  Some guys aren't much bothered by this, but I can't stand it.

You probably have lots of choices in WA.  One is certainly at REI....based there in Seattle area.  They carry both X-Lg. Lafuma and, another competitor of mine, Travel Chair (based in Gig Harbor, but undoubtedly built in China or Taiwan) for $99.99.  If it's as goood as the Lafuma (probably, as their stuff is typically good quality), then it's quite a bargain.

You might want to check out Carl's find at Lowe's....I haven't seen it, but Lowe's (as a company) has their act together and the buyer of that category is a real bright, thorough young lady buyer.  It's a darn good buy, I'd bet.

Nope, I don't work for either Lafuma or Comfort Channel....we sell a line of our own chairs nationally to retailers under a different label and different styles than the zero gravity chair.  Ours are all portable, convenient and as comfy as you can get for less-then-$50 price points.

I know...the high back is the only thing holding me back.  Oh yeah, there's the $$$ factor, as well.
