Paul, it is difficult to compare and contrast the standard blackbird build and the soundsmith blackbird. I've never heard them back to back, but having listened to other carts in the interim.
I have listened to both styles of blackbird though, and that being said I'd venure to say the soundsmith gives nothing up to the standard and might play a bit quieter in the groove.

This is a good transition cart from mm to mc, without the need for a sut or god forbid a headamp.

The freebee bps needs a cantilever. It is not an EVO III.
