yep......I've got both, I use the 'spin clean' as my pre cleaner, then the VPI. Perfect combination IMO

Spin Clean is great to get the heavy crud off of used records.  If you don't go that route, be sure to get a spare cleaning wand for your VPI.  Use one to do the first pass on really dirty records, so you aren't dragging dirt in to new records, or ones that are regularly clean...

If you really want to get crazy, pick up a third wand and give your records one more pass with distilled/de ionized water after you've done the full clean.  That does a nice job at getting any residual fluid out of the grooves and it might even find a little more crud as well.

Keep em all in ziplock bags, marked for usage so you don't mix em up!

Many thanks for the very helpful advice. Looking forward to the VPI 16 to arrive. I will post impressions of it vs Spin Clean and it in conjunction with Spin Clean.

Now off to look into VPI cleaning wands and whether that 16.5 upgrade is worth it...

I do a pre cleaning, using a trimmed 3" bristle paint brush and a sudsing cleaner (Phoenix w/enzymes), brushing until there is a foam, then wipe with a microfiber towel leaving cleaner in the deep grooves. This removes much of the nasties before vacuuming. Then scrub with the KAB EV1 brush with distilled water, then vacuum.  Takes about 3 minutes per record, and keeps the vacuum brushes cleaner.

Yeah, I didn't pay over $500 for this one. A used 16 off of eBay. Down the road I will get the upgrade kit. **Oh wait, stop the presses. It has been upgraded and the seller didn't realize it. SCORE!!!**

Reason to pair the two is one of force applied by the brushes. I could see how the squeeze of the two SpinClean brushed pushed against each other could do a nice job with really dirty records (as TONEPUB's comments suggest). So the combo gets me the benefits of the SC squeeze, and the VPI vacuum.

Yep, good call on the pre clean.  It really does help get the most dirt out, no matter what RCM you are using...

I agree with Tonepub that my SpinClin works great for precleaning the really filthy stuff. I don't usually buy vinyl less than VG+, but sometimes a killer bargain comes alone.

Yes the Vinyl Magician is what got me thinking about vacuum RCMs again.   But used VPIs close the price gap and have been around for years.
