Base Stratos - power switch bad

I'm looking at a used Strato.  Seller said all is good except for touchy power switch that "should be replaced."

Is this a typical problem area or sign of abuse?

Never had a problem with the switch but have rarely used it (it's powered up 24/7).

The older ones had neons which always fail after a few years. Is that what they mean?

I wouldn't say its abuse or a typical problem. Its a mechanical switch. It can fail. This type of switch is pretty much a dime a dozen, If you can solder you can replace it yourself with a similar lighted unit or a non lighted unit (you will need to remove extra wire for the neutral if not lighted) Otherwise it would probably be a good idea to send it to Klaus for a quick checkup and and tuneup anyway  :thumb:

PO says it is touchy to work.  So he had been leaving on.

I was thinking it would be good idea to send in for tune up.

It's at a very fair price and since I cannot afford new I'm thinking of going for it.

If the unit can be powered on, I would leave it on all the time.  My Stratos amp has been on since April 2010.  It sounds amazing and is always cool to the touch.  I have not noticed any increase on my electric bill with the amp left on all the time.  Actually it is cheaper than when I left my previous Classe amp on all the time.
