Laptop- DAC question
« on: 18 Apr 2012, 10:33 pm »
I recently bought a Eastern Electric DAc Plus DAC. Have connected it via USB to my MAc laptop (running OS 10.41,  power PC. it cannot be upgraded to 10.6).
Downloaded driver from Eastern Electric and installed it successfully on laptop.
However the driver doesn't appear either in system prefs/sounds or in AUDIO midi set up, when connected to the DAC.
And laptop not outputting any signal to the DAC/amp/speakers.
(I did however get it to play on someone's laptop PC running XP via the same USB cable)

The manufacturer says the DAC is 10.41 compatible but I am starting to doubt this. Anyone any ideas or insights?

I don't really want to buy a new laptop!

many thanks

I'm not sure the driver would appear in those apps but the dac should. If you chose the Sound folder in System Preferences then select output it seems to me that the dac should appear there. Can you hear anything from the internal speaker? Be sure the mute box is unchecked.

Issue diagnosed. the laptop has usb 1.0 and the DAC needs USB 2.0.

thanks
