Sons of Anarchy

OK, I started watching this on Netflix streaming based on the rave reviews of this show, but I'm pretty bored with the 1st season.  My question - does it get better in season 2 and 3?  Because if it just maintains the level of season 1, then I'm just gonna cut my losses now and stop watching.

I had the opposite reaction. Had low expectations and got sucked in hard. It does pick up the pace in a very serious way in 2 and 3, non-stop stuff goes down but the overall gist of the show doesn't change. It's motorcyle sopranos soap opera.

Tyson: How far are you into the first season? I was not bored during S1 at all, but I was on the edge of my seat for most of S2, and the S2 finale was some of the best television I've ever seen. I'm currently almost done with S3. I would really encourage you to finish up S1 before bailing, because S2 is a great ride.

I just finished watching the S3 finale, and I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor. I am truly in awe of this show. A friend of mine told me that the finale for S3 was the best episode of tv  he's ever seen...I honestly thought he had the seasons mixed up, because after watching the S2 finale (as I sated above) I just couldn't imagine it getting any better. Well, overall S2 was still my favorite in totality, but the S3 finale left me speechless.

Tyson given your reaction I can give mine. I hate that show. Tried it. Has some moments, some cliff hangers, but there are much better uses for Netlix.

I almost gave up on it after Season 1. Too much of Jax sitting on the roof pondering his father's words. Season 2 was much better and 3 was almost as good (when they stayed stateside). Season 4 had real possibilities but they fumbled it IMO. Still like the show and will watch it next season. Yup, it strains credulity but it's fun having a show about bad guys doing bad things. It's been renewed for two more seasons.

The season 3 finale was near-prefect (I have one nit to pick about it). I agree that 2 was better overall than 3 (the trip abroad killed the momentum).

Yeah, the Jax on the roof scenes were my least favorite.

One thing about this show is the casting...it's fantastic. I find Tig particularly entertaining, and that guy (no idea what his real name is and too tired to look it up lol)who plays him does a great job. I also love how the show rarely borrows from other shows I've seen. Stuff has gone down that I only didn't see coming, but I've never seen it done before in other shows and/or movies. Granted, I'm much more of a sports and movies guy than I am a TV guy, but many shows are too predictable. I like how the writers seem to put themselves in the position of the viewer...I never know what the hell is goign to happen next.

We quit watching after deciding no one could have that much shit happen in their lives and remain sane. I forget where we were in the show but it must have been after season 3. It is full of surpriss though.

I dunno, I'm almost done w/ Season 1 now and it just seems like the Sopranos filtered through Kid Rock.

Isn't that the case with most tv/movies from Hollywood? The truly original idea is rare, and has more trouble find financial backers.

Kid Rock. Ha. Ew. That's mean! Well I think SOA is far more original than the Sopranos - a show that can be linked directly to the success of films like Analyze This and of course The Godfather. I certainly never heard of a motorcycle club drama of any kind being done for tv before.

I think Tyson was expecting something more dramatic and intense and as good as the hype.

But that show was called The Wire.

You'll have a new standard for "dramatic and intense" when you get to the S3 finale  :thumb:

Well, through Season 2 now and it was better than season 1.  Good TV, but not great.  Assuming S3 stays at this level, it'll probably be worth it to watch.

One thing that I do find endlessly amusing is how much of the show is about the gang's social hierarchy and power structure.  I mean, they are Sons of friggin' Anarchy!  Hahahaha

Actually, as much as they vote on everything, they should change their names to "Sons of Democracy"!

Just finished S4...I liked the season better than S3 overall, with S2 still being my favorite. I felt the finale for S4 was solid, but I had more criticisms of it than I have the previous finales. It's been a great ride, but I'm bummed that I have no more episodes to watch until S5 starts up in the Fall!! lol

I actually know one of the directors for the show - next time we hang out I'll have to give him shit about his lead actor's complete lack of charisma.
