I wonder if Magnepan will ever be the same after Josh dissects them. Will Wendell ever reply to another question on AC? The whole thing is just too scary.

Thanks, all! Steve, I'll find out what I can. As things now stand, I know very little about their design process, just that they use blind testing before they incorporate a change. As Wendell says, he wants to make improvements his wife can hear.

What a great trip!

Got back late last night, been unpacking, getting photos onto my computer, and trying to figure out how best to write up my experience, post photos, answer everyone's questions, etc. In brief, though, a great bunch of people, and a company run by audiophiles just like us, who talk about and wonder about and play with all the same stuff we do.

Mark Winey, Jim Winey, and Wendell Diller. How Jim was in such a good mood given that he had to go home to do his taxes I'll never know!

Welcome back Josh, I'm so glad you made the pilgrimage. I've been to dozens of factories - from the spinning of cotton into yarn to aeronautical manufacturing. They are all fascinating, but I'm a bit jealous of your shaking the hand that built the first Maggie. I'm not so jealous of your having questions to answer and... Get busy!

I hope to make it to White Bear Lake some day. In the meantime, I can't wait to read and see all that you have to share about your trip.

This is taking a lot of time to write up. It seemed like I had to leave too soon, but I realize that all told, I spent something like 12 hours at Magnepan or with Magnepan people. If I were a reporter, I could boil it all down to four pages, but we're nuts and I know that everyone is going to want to know the details. All that great stuff that only interests audiophiles, like where Mark's Mini Maggie woofers were or how much Jim likes the Ayre (a lot -- you can tell an engineer by his affection for asynchronous USB). So it's going to take some time. My main concern is that things will start to slip my mind before I get them on paper, I'm starting to wonder "did Wendell say that, or was it Mark?" And beginning to get an appreciation for how those annoying inaccuracies slip into news articles.
