Balanced Power?
« on: 18 May 2004, 07:06 pm »
Woud someone be kind enough to enighten me on the concept of balanced power? Equi-Tech and B-P-T technologies advertise units which "output balanced power"  Also does the Monster Cable HTS7000 or the Shunyata Hydra use this approach as well or do they do something else for power conditioning?  Thank you.

Balanced Power?

I am a big fan of Equitech and their products.  Equitech has more info that you could ever want on balanced power.  Here's the link:  http://www.equitech.com/faq/faq.html  I've used an Equitech in my system for four years and I couldn't be happier.

One thing to note about balanced power.  The AC must pass through a transformer (or regenerator in the case of PS Audio) to be balanced.  So if you want to feed balanced power to your power amp(s) or TV/Projector you will need a big transformer that can pass the high current needed by your component.

Some of the balanced power products out there use small transformers that will only pass 3 to 4 amps, only enough for source commponents.  I like my Equitech because it will pass 20 amps of current, enough to drive all my components, power amps, and projector without breaking a sweat.

I noticed that Equitech is selling their 20 amp Q transformer in a wall mount electrical box for under $500.  That is a deal!  http://www.equitech.com/products/seconds/seconds.html

Throw in a couple hundred more to have an electrician wire it up to a dedicated circuit and your AC power issues are solved - permanently!
