HBO series and movies

Anyone see the HBO movie about Sarah Palin?  It's behind the scene, what goes on kinda thing, and it's an eye opener.  Features a big cast of well known actors and Julianne Moore as Palin.  Brutally told pure manipulation of the masses and it's very well done.

HBO used to have some decent programming.  Now, it's a joke.....in my humble opinion.

It's a mixed bag but I think they have turned out some great stuff lately.  Boardwalk Empire was great, I love Game of Thrones and like eastbound and down.  The new series Girls looks very promising and Life and times of Tim was very funny.  Overall I like their stuff.

The Palin movie was also pretty funny.  I don't know how accurate it was but I suspect much of it was accurate. It was entertaining.

Girls DOES look like its gonna be funny!  I've only seen one episode of Luck so can't comment except to say, my word, what an enormous number of recognizable actors!

'Game Change' was a good movie but a better book!  The book was a behind-the-scenes look at ALL the players (McCain, Palin, Obama, Clinton) but the movie focused on Palin.  While I never thought Palin was ready, I thought that maybe, after a decade or so, she might be.  After reading the book and seeing how she folded/caved in under the pressure I simply don't think she'll ever be ready.

As far as HBO goes, there simply isn't a better network in existence.  They don't always hit it outta the park, but they're always swingin' for the bleachers!!

Steve Schmidt, who was the McCain campaign manager and is played by Woody Harrelson in the movie, says that it happened exactly that way.  Big snafu.

I just caught Eastbound and Down for the first time.  They had four episodes on in a row.  Funny.  I am hooked...

Julianne Moore nailed it.  Sometimes I see her in the ads and I'm thinking "hold on, is that Palin or Moore"?

I think AMC can give HBO a run for it's money - Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead - all are absolutely stellar, some of the best shows ever on TV, IMO.  Course HBO's been doing it longer, so a stronger history of good programming there.  But AMC is coming on strong, very strong.

Haven't checked out Game of Thrones yet, I hear it's pretty good.

I think AMC would be better as a premium cable channel.  I agree that Mad Men is one of the best shows of the last five or so years but it too would be even better if it didn't have to hew to major network standards.  It's not always about nudity but it can be pretty unrealistic when people you know would be swearing don't swear!

How is Walking Dead season 2?  I watched the first season but to me it was on the bubble right from episode 1; it was entertaining enough to catch the next one but boring enough that I haven't bothered checking it out since it came back.  Is S2 worth watching?  Does something actually happen this year?

Walking Dead season two is flat out incredible right up to the last ten minutes of the last episode where the story takes a drastic, deus ex machina, comic book turn. VERY unfortunate.

The best series I've ever seen is on HBO, it's called Boardwalk Empire. Many of the episodes are simply astonishingly good. Oscar worthy, if that were possible. I will be ordering HBO as soon as the new season starts.

I'll admit I watched the opening episode of Girls.  It kept my attention even if it lost me man points.  I am in awe of Lena Dunham who writes, directs and costars in the thing.  She is 26.  Critics mention Sex and the City, Absolutely Fabulous and Seinfeld when reviewing the show.  I felt at times that she was channeling Woody Allen...

Did you know it's based on a comic book?

Walking Dead S2 was a huge disappointment for me. The first few episodes were strong, but after that it was pretty lousy until the last two episodes. That being said, if you enjoyed S1 and plan to watch S3, I'd definitely invest the time to get caught up. I won't go into detail as to why I thought S2 was a let down since you haven't seen it. I do feel it's worth watching, though.

Supposedly that character and one or two others who are supposed to show up in S3 are some of the most interesting ones from the comics.

I do know it's from a comic book, but right up to that very jarring and bizarre moment, the show never strayed. They were doing so well without that cop out!

Predicting ridiculousness.

In keeping with the OPs question, I think 'Game Change' was great.

As to other cable channel offerings, i'm surprised no one has mentioned, 'The Killing', on AMC. Some of the best I've ever seen since HBOs 'The Wire'. The depth they go to to convey the utter destruction a murder can have on a family and the community is devastating. Also, some of the best acting and writing I've seen in a while. If you haven't seen it yet, you owe it to yourselves to check it out. It's on right before 'Mad Men'.

Never a false move.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your view. The character introduced in the last ten minutes is a main character from the comic. The location you saw in the last ten minutes is a location that's in the comic as well, from what I understand. It's a brief set-up for season 3. How is that a cop out?
