  • The poodle bites, the poodle chews it.
Up for sale is one of my Sonic Frontiers preamps, the SFL-2.
I've had this unit for a few years now and a year ago it was retubed with tubes from Parts Connexion.
The SFL-2 was pretty much a cost no object item when it was designed and it's a very neutral sounding piece with strong dynamics.  If you're looking for tube warmth and syrupy strings this is not for you.  This is more like solid state without the grain that can drive you nuts.
Recently given a clean bill of health by my local stereo repair store (Harrisburg Radio Labs).
Included are the new Russian tubes from Parts Connexion and the original owner's manual plus two NOS Amperex Bugle Boys which are installed in the V5 and V6 sockets.
The original boxes were turned to mush during last year's tropical storm - the preamp itself was far away from the basement.
I would give it a 7 on the Audiogon scale - there are some small marks on one corner of the faceplate.
Sorry for the poor photos, the lighting in my living room makes it difficult.
The only thing that I can't vouch for are the balanced inputs as everything that I have uses RCAs - my reel to reel croaked and I think I'll just let it rest in peace.
I'm sure that everyone knows about Stereophile Class A recommendations - I'm not sure if I'm making a mistake in selling this or not.  Every so often I get the urge to try something new and I can't keep everything (much as I'd like to).
Local pick up/audition is fine in Stewartstown, PA, otherwise buyer to pay actual shipping costs, no PayPal charges.
