Any way to reduce 7B-SST Gain
« on: 7 Apr 2012, 02:00 pm »
Hi,

Want to run my dCS Puccini directly to the 7B-SST but found that i had lower the Puccini volume a lot below the recommended optimal volume range.

Is there a way to lower the 7B-SST gain?

Have tried a passive attenuator but still not good enough.

Thanks.

Hi,

Have you tried the 2 Volt setting on the back of the 7B's?

Hi James,

Thanks for coming to help.

I thought the 2V setting is meant for using XLR Balanced connection.   :duh:

Anyway i have now switched to 2V setting, but still too much gain and cant get within the recommended optimal volume range of the Puccini player.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

In the 2volt setting the amp is only giving you 23dB of gain so I would look at having the player reduce its gain  - do you know how much gain the Puccini has?  It must be fairly high

Hi James,

The Puccini has 2 settings : "2V" and "6V" and i am using the 2V setting.
Checked the User manual but it doesnt state the gain.
But it mentions to use "passive attenuators" if too much gain in system.
Perhaps i'd ask dCS.

Anyone knows a good passive attenuator to recommend?

Thanks.

Thanks Prelude.
That's a variable attenuator ... looking if anyone knows of an exellent fixed attenuator to keep things pure and minimalist.
I have the Harrison Laboratory's 6dB Attenuator.

I have the same problem w my PWD Bridge - Classe CA-2200. I've tried Scott Endler's passive (XLR) and Rothwell (http://www.rothwellaudioproducts.co.uk/html/attenuators.html ). I've had Rothwell's customized to a -20dB attenuation, but still at -40- 50% of max volume - so still looking for a better solution.

Take a look at this site and ask him if he has what you are looking for.
