NEED HELP ADDING BDP1 TO MY COMPUTER
« on: 5 Apr 2012, 04:39 pm »
 Maybe this is for James or Chris. I can't seem to get the BDP1 to connect in the Network settings on one of my computers. I use a wireless router. My desktop, which is hard wired to my router has no problem making the connection to the BDP1 but my laptop, which is connected wirelessly to to my network, will not show the BDP1 connection in my network.
    Any suggestions?

Is your network configured to use dynamic ip's or static?

Some WIFI security will have guest access that is limited, and full access.
Usually they will have different pass keys.

First step would be logging into your routers config page with your desktop and see which devices are on the network.

Hi jjc1,

are you trying to connect to the bdp-1's network shares or control it via either one of the many mpd applications or web apps?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris.  Just trying to connect to the BDP's network shares. My setup is via adapters and would like the convenience of of sending files to other drives or converting files using my laptop when the BDP is on.

Hi,

just wanted to make sure i knew what you wanted to do, simply open an explorer window (i.e. my computer) and in the address box enter "\\bryston-bdp-1\" or if that doesn't work try "\\<the bdp ip address\".

Cheers,
Chris

Chris, nothing seems to work. I even connected my laptop, using ethernet, to my router and the computer still doesn't see the BDP. My last try will be to connect the laptop to the bdp using the ethernet connection. Maybe that will establish future wireless connection.

JJC1, you will need a router or something to assign the IP address to both machines.  Most likely you have a firewall running, VPN, haven't enabled sharing of folders or your router is configured to DMZ mode your laptop or wireless setting.

With both your PC and BDP on, go to the front panel and find the IP address assigned to it.  On your Windows 7 machine go to "start -> accessories -> command prompt" and type ipconfig.   Both IP addresses should be similar something probably like 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101 where the first three digit groups (octet) match, and the last digital group is different.
If only the last octet is different then go ahead and ping the BDP to see if they are on the same local network.   i.e. ping 192.168.1.101    If you don't see a word like "failure" then the network is connected properly, you just need to review your security settings on both your laptop and maybe even your router.
