I saw Hunger Games at the theater and absolutely loved it. Maybe if I had read the books I would have felt differently like others have but I don't read books anywho.  :duh: I look forward to seeing this movie again once it reaches the premium channels (HBO, Starz, etc).

Cheers,
Robin

Kindly explain to we (me) naysayers what about this movie there is to love.  What about it isn't ridiculous for starters.  By the way, I did like Woody Harrelson's character.  It's pure Hollywood formula, my man.  IMO, of course.

Hi Jim, honestly, not a huge amount. You are supposed to fall for the leading lady and her fawning sidekick's clumsy attempts to show his devotion. You are supposed to dislike the rich city folk, their disregard for the honest working folk, and their abusive use of resources. Not to mention their dress sense. You are supposed to cheer for the triumph of the underdog who somehow managed through human resilience and of course the power of all powers, love, to succeed against all odds like hallucinogenic bees and 3D-conjured wolf-things.

If you didn't, well, it was only a few bucks to the video store.

I watched it last week and it was surely one of those movies where the buzz got to me a bit and I was let down when I saw it.  Decent movie, interesting concept but nothing that moved me.
For some reason it made me want to go back and watch House of Flying Daggers, a movie that my wife and I really think is beautifully violent.  One of my all-time favorites.  Visually stunning and great audio as well, if you have a surround system the Chinese drum scene is stellar.

Watch "Daggers" and "Hero" to see how it's done.

I thought that Jennifer Lawrence had a great presence and lots of charisma.  The premise of the film was OK and there were a few amusing ideas.  I am a bit bored with sadistic homicidal types though and the plot was pretty thin.  1984 was so much better than this.  Or Cube...
