Tell me that alien in the chair (seen also in ALIEN, 1979, chest burst out) isn't giving you chills.

 Prometheus, Ridley Scott, June.

(thankfully, no Sigourney.. Do you know anyone named Sigourney? I don't. What a *weird name.)

*thanks AE  :green:

Susan Alexandra Weaver changed her name to Sigourney in 1963 at the age of 13 after the character "Sigourney Howard" in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

Ahh, "the gun room" as it is referred to by the artist H R Giger... A man who singlandedly invented a visual gener of art.

I have not anticipated a film this much since Episode 1.

Ridley Scott reportedly had so much fun returning to this universe, he is planing a return to Blade Runner!

The trailer certainly has my anticipation up.  With the great big (understatement) universe we live in I hope they came up with better than just aliens that want to eat us/ kill us/ take our resources.  It has been done...  Having said that, most everything has been done so I'll take an original angle...

Maybe there will be a new angle -but I wouldn't nessisarily expect it from the infesting Xenomorphs. This acid for blood, parasitic reproduction, and survival instincts of this species will probably stay pure carnage.
Just a theory

PUMPED for this movie.

I just wish they didn't give the plot away in the trailer is all. It doesn't change the fact that it looks FREAKING AMAZING.

Xenomorphs take on characteristics of who ever they infest but... Clearly the space jockey has some sort of control over them. We know he dies, so we know the balance is disrupted. Hard to say exactly what purpose and relation there is between the space jockey and the xenomorphs though.

I certainly hope it is better than the sequels.

What do you mean? Alien is fantastic, and Aliens is one of THE iconic movies of the genre, of all time. Alien 3? Maybe if you're French.. Alien Ressurection, overall, pretty damn good.

Maybe he's thinking of AVP. The 3rd and 4th would be considered great movies in their own right if it weren't for the fact that the first two are bona fide classics.

It will also be nice to see Ridley going back to the visual stylings of which he is a master: incredible wide angle shots, brilliant production design sense, and lots of rain/water/wet surfaces.

The original was a decent movie.  The sequels were horrible and got worse as they went along.  Fingers crossed.

LOL If you thought the original was only decent and the rest horrible you will probably be in for a disappointment! :P

ALIEN on Blu-ray btw is AWESOME. Perfect transfer.

Aliens was horrible?

You might want give it another shot, you probably had a bad day when you saw it. Movie since still pay it homage!

I've never in my life come across a person who didn't  love that movie. Like, ever. And it looks good! You could release it today and not need an ounce of CGI or rewriting. A masterpiece.

Alien was a ground breaker. Nothing like was done up until then. I remember the utter silence of the audience.

Aliens was good, but one alien was more terrifying than a boatload of 'em. To me, it hasn't held up as well over the years.

Alien 3 was a return to the original with one, scary alien. The ending was a bit drawn out and even David Fincher had reservations after making it but it holds up better than Aliens.

Alien Resurrection was just WAY over the top to the point of parody. It had its moments and potential, but it was a waste of talent and a disservice to the original: just capitalizing on the name.

Prometheus has me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see just what Ridley has in store of us.

Hmm...I don't anyone who quotes lines from Alien 3 and I'm pretty sure only movie lovers like myself could rattle off at least 4 of the actors in it without hitting imdb...

Agree'd, Alien 3 was the only truly bad movie in the series, although it had some moments. It doesn't hold candle to the two films that came before and could almost be mistaken for a low budget made for tv movie.  To say it's better than Aliens, is truly a unique viewpoint.

I didn't quotes from a movie were considered valid criteria for movie appreciation.
There are movies I couldn't quote one line from but they are up there with the best. Faces are never lost on me as I feel that that is the crux of movies: the visual aspect (old German silent film makers hated the arrival of talkies).

As for my unique viewpoint, thank you very much. :thumb:     I've never considered myself one of the masses when it comes to art, music and film. Thank goodness no two people (except maybe here ) have the very same taste. But I jest, and digress.

I still beg to differ as the 3rd installment was more faithful to the original than the 2nd. The original alien was very tall and lean (meant to eventually be 15' tall-think T-Rex) phallic horror that raped and violated all its victims. You never got a good look at it until the very end. Lurking, scheming and stalking its victims. Ridley Scott meant to disturb the audience on a subliminal level and he succeeded. His use of H.R Giger was intentional, beyond the LP cover art that most people don't look past. His work is truly disturbing as it shows humans forced to interact with machines on every disgusting level, using every body orifice extant.

Now comes James Cameron, who has the penchant for the bombastic and he throws all of that out for a shorter, muscular, macho look for the alien, lots of them. I was impressed, at first, but my tastes have become more refined and it simply doesn't hold up as well. James Cameron reminds me of the director in that credit card commercial where after a ship blows up he screams "No! Bigger! BIGGER!"

Fincher went for some of the original magic but the masses were inured by then and the movie was considered too slow. I'll admit that the ending was drawn out and there were things I'd like to see done differently but his vision was truer to the original than the 2nd installment.

As the 4th movie, choosing Jean-Pierre Jeunet (heavens! a real Frenchman) is all I have to say on that one. It was the worst of the bunch.

We all have different tastes but I think we can all agree that with Ridley Scott in the helm, all of this will be forgotten.

You sir are incorrect. The Alien in the third film was the spawn of Alien and dog, and ran around on all fours at ground level. It was not more faithful to the original. If you didn't understand this, it's because the Alien changes slightly with each creature it mates with. The original was tall because it was the spawn of Alien and some other as yet not shown species.

The Aliens in Aliens were the spawn of Alien and people.

Make sense now? Had nothing to with artistic vision.

That said, the second installment was the best, most polished, and by far the most intense. The original is equally good, just in different ways.
