This master piese from Yes is really special. The lyrics from SOON:Soon oh soon the lightPass within and soothe the endless nightAnd waiting for youOur reason to be hereSoon oh soon the timeAll we move to gain will reach and calmOur heart is openOur reason to be hereLong ago, set into rhymeSoon oh soon the lightOurs to shape for all time, ours the rightThe sun will lead usOur reason to be hereThe sun will lead usOur reason to be here
It's not so much the lyrics that get to me. It is the beautiful melody, with that great pedal steel slide guitar, that enters after the intensity of the chaotic 'war' instrumental section. It's the way it resolves the previous section. It is musically cathartic. It is the drastic change in emotion that gets me.
I will agree with Bob in St Louis and Roymail. Eva Cassidy is the best singer I have ever been blessed to hear. Her voice is heavenly and she is a notch over every other singer, even Frank Sinatra. Her story is very touching...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXU219b3Zdw
But the lyrics are not very profound. There are a few songs that supposed to make you guys tear are about the sun and the light. Why do the sun and the light make you tear?Light, sun, light, sun, light, sun....is it supposed to be sad or something?Sun and light make me jump up and down and happy, not sad.
To me the lyrics talk about the return of Jesus, and the light is Himself.
That would be wrong. 'Gates of Delirium' is Based on Tolstoy's War and Peace, the song begins with a prelude, which leads into a lengthy instrumental section representing the battle. The final section ("Soon"), is a very gentle, soothing appeal for peace and hope which represents the aftermath of the battle.
Again, it's not the lyrics, it's the melody that comes after a chaotic extended instrumental section depicting war. The lyrics sound simple, but they are about the hope of peace after war.Even if there were no lyrics in that section, it would still get to me.
It's ok guys, real men do cry. Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years Dan Fogelberg - Leader of the BandBoth choke me up because they make me think of my dad passing away way too young.
