man, macro, i must really be a wimp.  i have never heard this song, but yust reading what you wrote, and the thought of never seeing my son again brought tears to my eyes.

here's a song that gets me every time - it is yust so f**king depressing and sad:

dan fogelberg, same old lang syne
lyrics and song/wideo on u-toob:
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/d/dan+fogelberg/same+old+lang+syne_20035792.html

doug s.

That's a true story as well. About a year after Dan Fogelberg passed away, the woman he was singing about came forward and told the whole story. We had just moved back to St. Louis after living in Peoria, IL (Dan Fogelberg's hometown) when the story broke. She went to high school with him in Peoria, and ran into him years later on Christmas Eve. She never told the story out of respect for her (then) husband and she didn't want to cause Dan any trouble.

We all lost a great storyteller and an inspirational voice when he passed in 2007.

Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground - Willie Nelson

I nearly got through the funeral of a beloved cousin last year without losing my composure. Then they played this while we were filing out of the church. Now I can't listen to it at all without tearing up.

"Any old kind of day" by Harry Chapin....

"Brothers in Arms" Dire Straits Live version, not the regular version.

"Back to Tupelo" Mark Knofpler.

"Hello it's me" Todd Rundgren.

"Diamend and Rust" Joan Baez.

I am of that distant land, where I was born!
Immense nostalgia invades my thoughts;
and seeing me so lonely and sad, I feel like a leaf in the wind,
I would lament, want to die of sentiment.

Oh land of the sun!, I long to see it
Now that I live without light, without love;
and seeing me so lonely and sad I feel like a leaf in the wind,
I would lament, want to die of sentiment.

And this even more, a Gospel song by Beatriz:
http://letras.terra.com.br/beatriz/1636375/
Free translation:
- See I here (Beatriz)
They have done everything to stop me.
They have tried to convince myself that I will not get.
And threw me in a dungeon in an attempt to erase the dreams,
dreams that one day I dreamed for me.

But the dream of a believer can not die, even if I be misunderstood by my brothers.
They can speak whatever they want of me, force me to be alone,
but God ensures that is with me, I survived.
Look at me here.

Nobody will prevent me from receiving my victory.
Because God chose me and wrote my story,
the enemy, and like it or not Iam here.
Look I am here, the enemy until thought I had given up,
spread to everyone that I had died, but to his shame. look Iam here.

The more time passes for me, I do not understand much of what happened to me.
But I trust in God who loves me, picked me and took me out of mud.
And is not just any storm that will destroy me.
Even though I am forgotten by my brothers.
Iam sure God has prepared a path for me, and whoever wants to believe wait,
and who is alive, believe and see, that Jehovah is for me, I survived.

I will agree with Bob in St Louis and Roymail. Eva Cassidy is the best singer I have ever been blessed to hear. Her voice is heavenly and she is a notch over every other singer, even Frank Sinatra.

Her story is very touching...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXU219b3Zdw

Now, it you buy the "4 way street" CD, you'll get a bonus track of Neil Young playing the acoustic medley of "the loner----cinnamen girl----down by the river", this track won't bring you right down as much as "Cowgirl in the sand" would, but very darn close to it.

Easy, Bob.  Pick up a hammer and hit something.  Hit your chest  with your fist a few times.  You'll feel better.

Eva Cassidy is what convinced my wife that I should buy the big Maggies.   :thumb:

Thanks for the advise Bob.
I went out into the shop, found the biggest union worker I could find and told him all about his momma.

I'm not thinking about Eva anymore.
