Those look awesome, love stacked birch ply. If you dont mind how much did the raw cabinets cost from signature audio labs? I might want to do something similar.

Nice work, beautiful color combination. Looks like your other speakers were from a VMPS RM30 and a GR V2, among others?

Looks like the surviving competition is the Wharfedale Opus2-1.  Perhaps that is saying something about performance of a large dome midrange?

thanks , guys

@ gotchaforce , I paid $700 for both cabinets , with all the cutouts and already sanded .

@kip ,  yes , left VMPS RM30M , middle  Swans Diva 5.2F , right GR Research V2

I got a great deal on a used set of Wharfedale Opus 2-1 speakers including the Wharfedale SW-380 subwoofer and bought it only because it was just a great deal (cost me much less than the Verita speaker Kit alone . And these totally underrated speakers are just awesome sounding since 6 months now  .
The Verita's are awesome too . Depending on my music and daily mood/taste I prefer the one over the other .It is a tight race and I have to give the Verita's more time and I'm also waiting to finish my subwoofer stands for them .

Wow, incredible work. You have a right to be very proud. What did you think of the V2's in comparison? I had a fun day comparing my ported Verita's with the Ascend CBM-170SE, Wharfedale Pro Monitors, and the Selah Aura Jr's, when I first got them. The Verita's smoked them all of course, but it was fun to hear all of my monitors at once. I think that Wharfedale mid-dome must make a huge difference. I am always surprised how much bass the Verita's can pump out. Never accentuated, no bump, just there in spades when it is there in the music.

wagnju,  you think the difference in height betwen the Verita's and Wharfedale's is critical?

@ pslate
I agree that the big dome middle drivers bring the main magic to the Wharefedales .
The V2 are great speakers but they didn't work that good in my tight listening space. I couldn't pull them 3 feet from the walls and I just didn't have the flexibility to place them so that they sound good . I didn't want to change my room nor invest in room modifications/treatments or other electronics to get all the speakers sing right . The electronics and the room are given , so I had to find the right speakers that can sing and sound within the given environment .The Wharfedale and especially the Verita's are such speakers , much easier to setup and less critical in placement and they both don't demand some expensive and exotic 1000W special electronics .

@ vettett15

The height difference isn't critical as I sit a little bit higher on a office chair during listening. The height difference looks more on the pictures as it actually is . I personally also like it when the tweeter is a little bit higher than your ears .

How do you like the Marantz Pearl electronics?

Great looking speakers BTW...

Can you tell us a little on the finishing you performed? How much sanding did you have to do, what finish did you put on it, etc.

@mca , the Marantz KI Pearl units replaced a vintage A/D/S (Braun) CC4 preamp and PA4 amp combo.
I just liked the looks and the sound of the Marantz better , a very good used deal helped for the pro Marantz decision  :green: .

@vettett15  I used nothing special , things I could get at ACE , Home Depot or Lowe's .

I started with this , 5 layers with 400 grit sanding after each layer .

Than 6 layers of this with 600 grit sanding for sides and back

and finally I used one layer of this for front and top , no sanding needed

Very good work!  They look great.  Can I make one suggestion? Consider dual opposed passives.  No rocking as the forces are offset.

Juergen,

Great job! Those cabinets are beautiful and I love the copper & black acrylic top. Well done.

It looks great, but can the RAAL ribbons be rabbeted flush with the baffle, just like the woofers?

Due to the thickness and dimensions of the flange, there's no need unless it's for aesthetics.

Yes, they would look even better that way.
