Have an old analog setup in a small apt in the city.  Want to listen my Scott 222c with my new headphones, but have no "headphone" setting on my amp.  There is a headphone jack, but when I plug them in, the spkrs continue to operate. 

Q: Can I just unplug the speakers and blast my headphones?

I think the internals needs to be modified with a switch or something that allows you to choose between speakers or headphones.
