Monster Cable Power conditioner?
« on: 13 Mar 2012, 01:51 pm »
Much as I hate the idea of a Monster :banghead: product in my system, and I would never buy a Monster product new, is the Monster Power HTS2600 worth having?  I can get one locally cheap.
I have a two-channel system with Rogue 66 pre and Moscode 300 amp.

Thanks, all!

I used to have one of those HTS2600 back in the early 2001.  It did not make a difference in my system.  My experiment: I Hooked up my refrigerator and blew up the MOVs. It had to be sent back to Monster.  LOL!

If you like the look of Monster products, I would go for the higher model e.g. 5100 or 7000 series or perhaps something else that you can hear a difference.

Power conditioning is a trial and error. You have to find the one that works for your system and what sounds good to your ears.  Sometimes it just take many years of trials.  Sometimes you hit it in the first try.

Didn't know that it might that old.  The look doesn't matter.

Thanks for the report, Levi!   :thumb:

I am sure since then Monster did some revisions.  Experimentation is the key!

The cheap Monster and Furman are not so great.
Once you are up in the 7000 level Monster that is OK.
I still own but do not use both a Monster 5000 (which could be had used for $200. And a Monster 7000SS which is worth about $550 used.
I currently use two conditioners in my system.
A PS Audio P600 set to output 110hz instead of 60hz, for all the digital stuff.
And a Furman REF20 I for all else.
Bought both used.

IMO if you are going to go for a Monster, go for the better ones. A 2600 is pretty cheap originally, so it is not such a deal used. Worth $75 at best used.
I'd sell my 5000 for $200 anytime.
