Hi, Audiocircle fans.  Just wanted to give you a "heads-up" that St. Louis Public Radio, Waldbrandt Technologies, DTS Inc., and Meridian America are planning an event in mid-to-late April 2012 to demonstrate the potential of surround sound and DTS Neural software, to bring you the SLSO Saturday nite broadcasts in FULL 5.1 surround, using the SLSO's Telarc-built microphone array, next fall.  The demonstration will include DTS's SOTA encode-decode equipment and software, and a complete 5.1 Meridian surround system (861v6 processor, 8000 series digital loudspeakers, etc.), and a GOOD hall.

More details when we lock in a date, but you DO NOT want to miss this event.  Free adult beverages and snacks, as well, of course.

Hi, audiophile friends - we've settled on a venue - "Plush" on Locust, just east of Grand Ave, the Fox and Powell Hall, and north of SLU.  (Plush is just east of the Motomuseum and the Triumph Grill.)

We'll be on the 4th floor from 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm, on Saturday, April 21st.  Alex Kosiorek will explain how it all works, and then provide demonstrations using DaySequerra encode / decode processors.  The results will be played back through a 5.1 Meridian 8000 system, (ie 861v6 processor and five Meridian digital loudspeakers, including the phenomenal 8000's).  Bring your favorite multi-channel recordings for the demonstration.

A reception with food and adult beverages will follow.

A good time is guaranteed for all !!

Hi, Folks - well we had our event, but we only had the really diehard AES guys.  Sorry many of you missed it, but we will probably do something similar this fall at the new STLPR station studios on Olive St., (next to KETC's building).

The Meridian system sounded MAGNIFICENT, (thanks Aaron Walbrandt) and the DTS Neural Surround software is pure magic.  Alex Kosiorek (DTS recording engineer) played a track from Sting that had only his voice in the left rear channel in the discrete 5.1 mix.  When downmixed to stereo, Sting was comfortably placed in between the front L and R speakers.....when the stereo mix was passed through the DaySequerra Upmix decoder, the front speakers fell silent, and Sting re-emerged from the left rear ONLY.  Remember - this was only from 2 encoded analog channels that can be broadcast, recorded to CD, or mistreated in a number of ways.  Only low-bit rate AAC / MP3 encoding destroys the DTS encoding.

Oh, and the beer was ice cold.

Amazing....this is NOT Dolby Pro Logic, PLII, Circle Surround or any of that other silly, swishy, phasey garbage you've heard before.  DTS has figured out how to watermark the discrete channels with spread-spectrum, frequency hopping digital code which is inaudible in the stereo mix, but gives the Upmix processor enough data to recreate the 5.1 surround nearly losslessly.  Nobody else has anything close to this.  Stay tuned as we figure out how to use this to keep you guys entertained.

Sorry to hear about the lower than expected turnout. I know that there was a GAS swapmeet also scheduled for that day. It sounds like you got some neat technology going on there.
