Offered for sale is a beautiful Counterpoint SA-5000 tube preamp in black finish in excellent condition. This is a wonderful and musical sounding preamplifier that includes a world class mm/mc phono stage and balanced option. It comes in complete stock form except for the volume control which was changed to a much better sounding ALPS from the original cheap $7.00 volume control plus a few capacitors that were replaced do to their age so you will be getting a trouble free unit for many years to come. The entire lettering on the preamp shows no signs of wear and there is only one light scratch on the back of the top cover. The power supply unit has small slight scratches on the edge of the faceplate and heat sinks. The interior is very clean. I purchased the preamp from a friend of mine who originally bought the preamp in Switzerland. The unit was converted to US specifications and has worked flawlessly ever since. I rated the unit 8/10 just to be completely on the safe side. I can send more pictures as required. Comes with original box (good - fair condition), mint condition owner’s manual and two Counterpoint brochures. I also have the SA-5000 repair manual that I will make a copy of for an additional fee. The unit ships with the original sub-chassis lock-down screws.
How does it sound? Sonically the unit is so sweet and real sounding with a large 3D soundstage. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the music. Over the years, I have compared it to many preamplifiers and the Counterpoint SA-5000 has sounded better than most. I am also familiar with the Counterpoint upgrades offered that can take this preamp to entirely different level! If you desire, I can recommend what modifications to make and can also do the modifications for you for an additional fee.
