Anyone Have Experience With Hi-Q Records?
« on: 7 Mar 2012, 05:53 pm »
I've had my eye on Hi-Q  LP004 featuring the Mendelssohn and Bruch violin concertos performed by Yehudi Menuhin with the Philharmonia Orchestra.  Has anybody heard this recording or any other of the dozen or so available from this label?  I'm somewhat familiar with the performances and am more concerned with sound quality, soundstaging and imaging.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated as these records are not cheap so I don't want to gamble.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry I can't comment on the Hi-Q discs, but your post motivated me to spin this;

Am assuming it's the same recording??

53 years old and superb  :)

Yes, that's the one.  Hi-Q is a direct to disk from the original analog tapes audiophile pressing reissued with the original album art.  The process is done at Abbey Rd. studios.  If your're saying the original recording is 53 years old and "superb" then this one  must be worth the price of admission!  53 and supurb?  That was me 8 years ago.

... due to the age of the master tapes(4.30.1958/9.12.1956) it would be interesting to compare this new reissue
with the original on the white & gold label:

the 2nd edition on the semi-circle label:

and the 3rd edition on the dog in stamp label:

PS: ... with regard to Hi-Q Records, I've heard it's the successor of the Testament label:

Quietly launched last year, this outfit has produced some very fine-
sounding disks.  All titles cut at Abbey Road Studios from the
original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS80 lathe fed
an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape
deck with additional playback head.  Pressed on 180-gram vinyl on
original EMI presses at The Vinyl Factory(the old EMI plant) in Hayes, England.

I love you, Toni, but having all three of those is somehow "wrong"
LOL

:D - Actually I have two semi-circle label examples

95Dyna - I had thought about offering you a copy Gratis, but strongly suspect that you'd be able to get one locally for a lot less than the cost of postage from the UK.
