hello to everyone,
i bought BDP-1 and i like it a lot, but i did not like the BDP-1/BDA-1 combination in my system at all!
so i just bought the player and i used it with CA dacmagic, wyred 4 sound dac 1, chord qbd76.
the BDA-1 was very bright sounding in my linn system.
the w4s dac sounded much better to my ears and chord just have made it very good!
so my question is: what dacs othere than BDA-1 do you use or used with your BRYSTON BDP-1 and  what are your dac recommendations, im interested in laid back not up front sound, nothing to bright like BDP-1/BDA-1 combination.

EE Minimax Dac.  Tube and/or opamp rolling allow you to tailor your sound to fit your system.

I use the W4S DAC 2 with the BDP-1 and am very happy with the combo. You have to use a first class digital cable to get the max performance, IMHO, as well as an upgraded PC on the BDP-1, James's opinion notwithstanding.

hi Neal,
sure im using a first class digital cable,. and trust me w4s is a great dac but chord qbd76 is a different ligue!, much better soundstage, more space, air, and great separation, very clean and powerfull bass and fantastic balans.
but what is "upgraded PC on the BDP-1 ?, never heard of it ?
...thanx.

"Upgraded" simply means better (in my opinion) than the stock cord.

yes, the Chord DAC may be in a different league than W4S DAC2 but it is 4x the price as well. Since W4S sells direct, you are taking out a minimum 40% dealer markup, so $1500 is more like $2000+.
I looked into higher priced, perhaps better performing DAC's but concluded that given the rapid flux in DAC development and digital music delivery and playback, I would not go all in on a DAC as I would on an amp, pre or speakers. That said, I am looking into a Berkeley DAC or the new PS Audio DAC.
Enjoy your gear.

Using the BDP-1 with McIntosh MDA. The McIntosh/BDP-1 produces a smooth, natural sound to my ear. Loving the BDP-1 and ease of listening to any of my music with a touch or two on the I-pad.
