I have been told that as long as the digital music file or the ripped CD has all the 0's and 1's in place the quality of the download or ripping device is not important because the BDP-1 will do the rest.

Is there any reason why I cannot use a good quality powered USB Hub to connect two external drives to a single USB input on the BDP-1 and get the same sound quality coming out of the BDP-1?

Hi Fado,

Some people might argue that the power wart that the powered usb hub uses will introduce noise.  As a software engineer i believe (its of my opinion as a software engineer) that is untrue.  However though that I have heard of people stating they can hear the difference and i'm not about to call them a liar by any means.  With that said a good quality powered usb hub costs about 20 to 30 dollars, so it might just be easiest to pick on up and find out for your self.  We have already tested the BDP-1 with the DLink DUB-H4 powered hub, it was able to power to 2.5" hard drives, one of these drives consumed a full amp.  Hope this info helps.

Chris:  Thank you very much for the reply.  I thought my question was too totally stupid since it has been so long since I posted it without a response.  I prefer to use lower capacity SSD external storage so I can see running out of connections in the future. I will give it a try.

A 3.5" drive will come with its own power suPply, no need for a powered USB hub.

but i wanted to know what would happen if two or even more 3.5" external hdd (3 tb) would be connected to a powered usb hub with the BDP-1 (sorry, my mistake ).

Hey,

3.5" drives power themselves, no need to worry, infact you should be able to connect four tO a bdp withou the need of a powered USB hub.  I wouldn't recemend that as it could cause havoc with the bdp-1's ability tO remember its database after reboot.

the display tells me to "plug in some tunes"

3TB's  is too large in my opinion.  I was able to get 2TB with no problems but still recommend the Western Digital 1TB Passports on the BDP-1.

Hi Al,

The current firmware has issue with 3TB volumes due to certain gpt partition tables.  This will be fixed with our next firmware release later this month.

Plugging your flash / hard drives into a powered usb hub and connecting that to the bdp-1 does work without any issue. Haven't tried it with any hard drives bigger than 2tb though.
