I'm trying to figure out the best method of ripping my 7.5 ips reel to reel music onto a high resolution music file (i.e. greater than 44/16).

I have a Zoom H2 digital recorder that will allow me to record up to 96/24, but I'm not sure about the quality?

Would the Zoom capture all the tape's dynamic range?

I just bought the Zoom H2n and it works like a champ. When you AB compare it to the vinyl source, it's close enough that you don't care. Sure, it's only 24/96 not 192 but it's still really good. Much better than 16/44. The Zoom has a very slight (and I do mean slight) digital sonic signature but for what you are doing, it should be perfectly acceptable.

In my case I've been ripping obscure vinyl to hard disc. These are mostly one hit wonders (think groups like Free Beer, Kingfish, Rare Bird, etc) that I don't want to buy on CD. I'm doing it mostly so I can make it portable and listen to it in my car. I've found the sound quality to be pretty darned good overall. Way better than you would expect out of a $125 gizmo.
