For sale is a pair of McIntosh XR5s, a four way floor speaker. Each contain dual angled 5/8" tweeters, a domed upper midrange, an 8" lower midrange and a 12" woofer. These speakers benefit from the use of an equalizer to maximize their full potential. The woofers and 8" midranges have excellent surrounds. The original domed midranges have been replaced with HiVi 2" soft domed drivers. There is new grill cloth. The grills are hinged to swing open. The cabinets are a composite in good condition with very light scratches on the top but fully presentable. The dimentions are 15"w x 30"h x 12"d and weight is 76lbs each.  The speakers are fully functional, look good and sound EXCELLENT.  I will ship these. The shipping price will include insurance and packaging or may be pick up locally. My zip code is 19380-Speaker Price $350-USPS Money Order or PP+3%

Did you have to make changes in the crossover?  Curious as to why you chose the Hivi mid.  I wish I was a little closer I would be tempted.  I wanted a pair of these badly when they were new.

I did not make any changes to the crossover.  I wanted to find a replacement driver that was resonable in cost, size and overall characteristics.  The XR-5 mids crosover @1.4hz up to 7khz.  The HiVi has a range of 700hz-10khz. The HiVi's dimentions were the closest to the original mids.  I made a templet for the opening and cut from 3/4" plywood, a patch for each speaker just smaller than the opening of the original midrange and used urethane glue to glue in the patch. The glue expands, making an excellent seal.  This allowed me to use a hole saw for a very clean installation. Most of the patch was cut away with the hole saw. The HiVi's dropped right in.  Before I did anything I tried to locate original replacement drivers.  Next I tried to find replacement coils to rebuild the mids.  I pretty much gave up on both. I have the original mids and if by chance I come across coils     that fit and are the correct resistatance, they will be rebuit.
