After much deliberation, I'm putting up my T16 OTL amp for sale to free up some funds.
I built the amp from the T16 kit I purchased directly from Bruce.
I have done some mods that I have highlighted below :
- replaced the stock coupling caps with the superior 1.0uF Ampohm PIO Tinfoils - $120 upgrade (I haven't clipped the leads to help them sell should you need to)
- replaced the bypass caps in the first stage driver circuitry with Nichicons
- decent quality teflon hook-up wire
- driver tubes are top notch RCA Triple Mica BP 5751s, GE BP 6201, CBS Hytron 5814 that I purchased from one of the reliable tube sellers here on Audiocircle (Brady Broussard).
- original build manual
- extra set of replacement 6S19P-V "OTK" tubes
- original solen caps will also be provided
I will throw in a pair of load resistors with banana plugs that is required for biasing.
This amp is functioning flawlessly ever since I completed the build in 2009. It has given me much musical satisfaction with the Quad ESL 57s. If you are a Quad 57 owner and not heard the OTL sound, I highly vouch for this amp. It is stable enough to drive the crazy impedance curve that the Quad 57 is. Loads of PRAT and presence - everything what the OTLs are about. I have compared this amp with other other well regarded amps like the 300B DRDs, EL84 PPs and the T16 holds its own.
This does not have the "Low Noise" Upgrade, which is nothing but an extra LC filter section that can be added on later if you feel the need.
With the capacitor upgrades and nice set of driver tubes and extra set of output tubes that you will have handy should you lose any of the output tubes, I think I have priced my amp fairly at $1200.00. The kit with tubes cost $1699 But I'm open to reasonable offers. You are getting a fully built amplifier from a kit that could otherwise be intimidating to the uninitiated.
