DPS arrives

Got the DPS power supply Friday. After extensive listening this weekend I would say the DPS increases image density and attack. Not earth shattering, but an improvement nonetheless.

I am still digging the table. The Nott is sold and ships out tomorrow. As good as it was, I won't miss it.

Look forward to your impressions as you have more time with it. Got the Auditorium mat (went with the cheaper widely recommended tweak first), and have a bit of an itch for this upgrade . Especially since I can also use it to power my Dyna P75 phono pre.

So what are your impressions of the mat? Everyone seems to think the Auditorium is the one to get for this table. I was using a Boston Audio Mat-1 on the spacedeck and it seems to do a good job on the Amadeus too.

Truth be told I haven't had the time to sit down and A/B it with the stock. System sounds great w/ the Auditorium. But no real critical listening yet. Will report back.

the other big improvement for me was the elimination of humm that I was getting with the walwart power supply.  This was a big improvement in my system.

Nice!  I'm definitely looking to get a DPS somewhere down the line.  I did just buy a dustcover for the WTA and some new tubes for my amp though.

May I ask where you got your dust cover?

I bought it from an acrylic/plastic sign company.  http://www.jmkdisplays.com/turntablecovers.html

I'm still actually waiting for it to be delivered.  Should be sometime this week.  It was much cheaper than what you'd get from some audio company.  You give them the exact measurements you want.  Because of space I had to get one that will rest on the plinth.  I really wanted one to go completely over it, but I just didn't have the space on my rack.

Nice out of the box thinking. I have an issue with clearing heigth so I was thinking of leaving the back side open so it would slide over the whole table.

Have the A24 mat. Like it. Ordering the DPS.

Also upgrading my Heed Quasar to an EAR 834P MM/MC and plan to upgrade the cart from DV 20x2H to a ???

Any suggestions? Price range max about $3K

Goatguy,

I was thinking the same thing re: an open backed cover. If you get a quote can you lemme know what it'll cost?

If you go LOMC, esp if it is a low impedance Dyna LOMC, look into the P75 in PE mode. Sounds fabulous.

Be sure to take a look at the EMT line of cartridges as well.  I went with the TSD-15 super fine line with my Amadeus.  A match made in heaven.

Love my XX-2 Mk II rebuilt by Soundsmith (level 2 rebuild). There is a XX-2 MkII on A'gon now that you could have the same thing done with. No, as purists will tell you, it isn't a true XX-2, but could save you a good chunk of change. Soundsmith even examined the cart to make sure it was repairable and I made confirmation that it could be rebuilt a condition of my sale with the seller, who was fine with agreeing to that.

A'gon link (no affiliation with seller, and I'd ask around about the issue that the seller describes and its possible causes):

Well, I just received my dustcover at work.  From what I can tell through the bubble wrap, it looks pretty good.  Let's just hope my measurements were correct.

Too late :green:
I purchased it yesterday...mostly because I've been following many of your threads about the rebuild of your XX2. I have the 20X2-L right now and love it on the Amadeus; but something tells me it isn't as refined a cartridge as it should be for this 'table.

Think you will really like it. Now settle in for a 10-12 week wait when you ship it off to SoundSmith. Worth the wait IMO, worth the wait.

Look forward to your comparison to the 20X2L. I was originally gunning for it when the damaged XX-2 MkII came up for near the prive of the 20X2L.

Yeah, I'm very excited. This is a cart I've always wanted to try...even before I got the Amadeus. I've had three carts sent to Soundsmith in the past; the last one only took 8 weeks, which was a nice surprise. However, I expect it to go back to the normal 12+ weeks.
Sorry to steer off-topic here. Anyway, once I get it back, I'll post differences. I plan on getting it re-tipped rather than the level 2, but I think it all depends on the internal damage (seller described one of the channels falling out on a percentage of the albums he'd play; but via e-mail stated that he thought it may be his turntable or something else...who knows? My guess it is the cart. Why else would you sell it for that low a price?).
