EMU 0404 with upgraded PS ~ $110 - SOLD
« on: 20 Feb 2012, 12:06 am »
Hi All,
This unit is the highly regarded EMO 0404, in perfect working condition. There are no external blemishes I can see. The fuzziness on the front plate on the pic is from the original protective plastic film still present.
It comes with all the original PS, manuals and packing.
Upgraded PS is Jameco 5V @ 1000 mAmp.
Thanks for looking,
VJ

Big +1 on that little 0404

It runs AKM's AK4396 Miracle DAC -- "a true 192kHz 24-bit 2-channel DSD-capable D/A converter" over USB

Next, for fun, my friend wanted to compare the EMU to his Apogee setup for playback just to see what the differences would be. We loaded the same HRX cut onto both out PC's and using two inputs on his preamp and matching levels we could easily toggle between the $200 EMU 0404 and the $3500 Rosetta/Big Ben combo. Well, I promised him I would not go onto any forums and describe what we heard (he's still in disbelief I'm sure) so I'll just leave it at this: EMU 0404 USB owners can also "rest easy" that they are getting truly state of the are high resolution sound out of this little $200 wonder-box.

Thanks TqBD,
That was very very well put.
My brick V1 version was no match!! A few of the DACs in <$1000 range were no match!
However the brick V3 version was noticeably better. Probably Gordon has implemented a strong asynchronous protocol with better USB integration and upscale algorithm. The tube buffer does add a sense of holography!
