Yes too you my friend but not to us all....sorry :nono:
why are you wagging your finger at me?   :o  of course it's to me.  (not too me.)  which i stated.

the reality is, the only major adwantage in digital, due to typical recording technique not taking adwantage of digital's superior dynamic range potential, is less noise.  what i am happy about, for me, is that i am not distracted by the added noise, so i can enjoy a less artificial sounding playback source.  sorry you cannot.

Yes but as I found out the older pop music is lousy on cd. I guess because I listen to more recent recordings I find a refinement that wasn't there earlier due to the lack of digital technique and equipment. My collection has none of the compression you speak of but, certainly, my old cds  1983- about 1994 really are awful.  {except some Narada newage stuff.}   Yes I am wagging my finger at you.

yes, i agree redbook has come a long way.  i have some cd's that are eerily good.  only a few of these "well-recorded" cd's have winyl counterparts that i have heard.  examples include jazz at the pawnshop, patricia barbour's cafe blue, and ry cooder's buena wista social club.  in each of the 3 examples cited above, the winyl sounds better to my ears, and to everyone else i know who has made the comparison.  in the case of cafe blue, the bass was slightly better on the cd, and everything else on the winyl was better.

Hi.
dirt & wear are non issues, imo and ime - i have 40 year old records that still sound pristine.  limited dynamics is only a theoretical issue;

in reality, cd's dynamics are no better than lp's, thanks to what happens in the recording studio.  bad pressings are equally prewalent in any medium.  skating is addressed w/anti skating.  riaa curve is effective in recording bass.  imo, of course.

and, i have yet to hear any digital recording sound better than its analog counterpart, when such a-b comparisons are awailable.  due to the mechanical nature of the sound.   yes, redbook sounds good, when well-recorded.

lp simply sounds better.  imo   8)

ymmv,

Bingo! You have said what I want to say about vs digital.

It simply shows you have gone thru what I've gone thru & drawn conclusion on what we have found out. NO hearsays.

UNlike digital so easy plug & play, vinyl is not an easy animal to tame down. But once done properly, the reward is so gratifying, IMO.

ya, i left out "imo".  but i did say:

"...in each of the 3 examples cited above, the winyl sounds better to my ears, and to everyone else i know who has made the comparison..."

can you only comprehend acronyms and not complete sentences?   :duh:  and, when did i leave it out before, where a sentence did not make it clear it was my opinion?

if you know of anyone who has compared these specific examples and has drawn a different conclusion, by all means, post your experiences.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. Please enjoy your shiny discs and stay away from the open reels.

Really, I'm okay with it. :)

I keep all "shiny discs" - CD-A, CD-R, DVD-A as well as LPs (which I play ALL the time).

That said, I also keep many many cassette music tapes, commercial labels & dubbed from the air. Frankly, cassettle music can sound pretty good if done right. Very often, I like them more than CDs musically.
