Inkscape - frree SVG tool for Linux and Mac

With my old MacroMedia FreeHand about to become well and truly obsoleted, I needed to find a new (vector) drawing tool. I tried some from the App store (rather, I tried the free version or looked around for a downloadable trial) and very few could do arrowheads. Such a basic thing, you would think.... anyway Inkscape does, and it's free.

Inkscape, Scibus and Gimp FTW.  But scripts and plugins seem to only work for Linux.

FTW?

Perhaps it's time to have another look at GIMP, it didn't used to do 16-bit (that was a while ago...) and I ended up writing scripts using dcraw and ImageMagick to do most of what I need.

Not sure I have a use for Scribus, although I'd love to have something that could be scripted to take data (in whatever format, say XML) and generated formatted output.
