I think if you're gonna have a bunch of guitarists trading licks in a head-cutting session, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl might not have been the best choices...

I was thrilled to see him at least use the masterful Joe Walsh for the Valentine song and join his band.  I really like J.W.'s older material, guitar muscianship and I think he still has some creative life left in him.  Hopefully he can keep his life on track, between the ditches.

I thought it was the highlight of the night. But I'm an old fuddy duddy so....

WGH

Thanks for the post. Did you notice the all the lads have great hair, not a gray head on the stage. I should have been a rock star.

We're all jaded but I'd love to know what Katy Perry, Chris Brown, Nicky Minaj, etc. were thinking while listening to this. Like Grohl said earlier that nite:

"To me," said Grohl. "This award means a lot because it shows that the human element of making music is what’s most important. Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning to do your craft—that’s the most important thing for people to do. It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about sounding absolutely correct. It’s not about what goes on in a computer. It’s about what goes on in here (points to heart) and it’s about what goes on in here (points to head)."

There were some good young performers featured last nite: Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Adele. Hopefully there will continue to be a subtle trend away from the lip synching auto tuning wardrobe changing goose stepping performers who've dominated pop music for what seems like way too long.

Probably not, but that's what this fuddy duddy would like.

Oh and how bad was the camera work when they were trading guitar licks at the end of The End.

In case you missed it, here is what we're talking about.

I couldn't care less what they think. In the one small cutaway shot of the audience, they seemed to be digging it. It sure looked like everyone on stage was having fun!

I gave him a "Stoney Award" see here:

http://audiophilereview.com/audiophile-news/the-stone-awards-for-the-2012-grammys.html

I think that given the circumstances ( and I assume that as a music blogger, you are aware of the circumstances ):

a) The Glen Campbell segment probably went as well as anyone could have hoped, and
b) Your commentary on the Campbell performance seems a little harsh...

Just sayin'.

I'm a big fan of all these old coots, but I agree the section trading licks with this particular group of guitarists didn't cut it with me.  Most surprising and impressive performance to me was Bruno Mars - tight band, very entertaining.
