Correct - in my opinion there is no advantage to the BIT if you are using the 7B, 14B or 28B when it comes to instantaneous current draw.  In fact having the Torus transformer internal to the amp works better when it comes to instantaneous current draw. There are customers that feel the Torus or BIT helps with 7B, 14 and 28B's so that may be a debatable point.

That being said the BIT still provides over load Protection and Noise filtering with all sources plugged into it.

Yes thanks James, this makes it clearer.  Given I have a 4B-SST2, it helps me focus on whether the over-load protection and filtering offered justifies the purchase.  Given that my power quality seems to be good and that I have a dedicated 20 amp circuit for my pre-amp and amp and a separate 15 amp dedicated circuit for my sources, it requires some prioritizing of expenses i.e. what changes provide the most bang for the buck.  Cheers.

I think not using the BIT on all other gear is a bit understated here. After having my 14B for awhile i entertained the notion of selling my Torus (Bryston BIT ...same thing). I figured why not, i got the instaneous power out of my 14B plugged right into the wall...... Yahoo !!!!!. That notion was mostly reinforced by my experiences with the 4B and how it turned that amp into monster little power house.

I tell you what, i had all my gear unplugged from the Torus (using the 14B)  and everything into the wall. Even with the 14B and its latest transformer the whole system suffered. I lost a lot of the attack and dynamic sensations. It sounded somewhat fatigued (having recently used my Torus). It wasn't good and definitely a step back.

The Torus makes you think you have active speakers. The sense of powering you soundstage that actives give you less the commitment to one power and more ability to mix and match amp/speakers that you can't do with actives. This is with the Torus on all gear only !!!! Not just the amp.

One thing we can agree is comparing 4 to 7 the 7 with Piltron transformer will definitely out perform since its closer to the load.

However, with the Torus the ENTIRE system will stand to gain in SQ and the overall gain will outperform an identical system with 7 but without Torus - particularly in 240v.

Please re-read reply #17, #18, and #19.   Torus alone will not make your 4B system better sounding than 7B or 14B and ultimately 28B system.
