Lightroom 4 and an updated Capture NX2 will have moiré removel to deal with D800E files, don’t know how good they will be with a real bad moiré pattern.

Just avoid suits and linen. or turn the camera at 45deg.

I’ve been saving for a full frame and I’m just about there, will be used mostly for landscapes/nature. My problem is the D800E would be perfect for me but I have no Nikon glass. I just hope Canon will come out with something close. I have to say the dark side is calling me  :icon_twisted:.

Am I the only person who thinks this whole moiré issue is a little overblown? I mean I guess it might cause issues once in a blue moon, but is that really any reason to freak?

That would be true for me, but not if one sells photos to clients.

Not sure I understand the issue. There's a choice, if moire is potentially an issue, get the one with the lowpass filter on it (like every other DSLR); or if you want the absolute "raw" data and are prepared to deal with the consequences, then get the one without the filter.

I have to admit I have a fairly hard time picking between the two. If just presented with the two images I would have guessed that the one on the right has slightly more sharpening applied.

I say we shoot nothing BUT people wearing finely-lined fabrics and try to get as much moiré as possible!  This will start a new trend to eclipse the ravages of HDR halos and miniature city photography. A Flickr Group could be created called MOAR MOIRE!!! - The Rainbow Lovers Group to showcase these.

Wouldn't moire be a problem with scanners too (high end ones)?

(Currently $200 less on Adorama than Amazon! In stock at Amazon but worth the wait from Adorama if you know you will be getting one...)

its called newton rings- you get it when you scan negs or transparencies through glass or plastic (flatbed scanners) but thats something else.

Of course, there will probably be dozens of groups! I am working on an unfathomably ugly award badge to give to people too!

Anyone ordered the D800? Any idea about when it is supposed to ship to those pre-ordering?

As fully predicted after D800 announcement, Canon looks to be a few days away from announcing the next 5D.  If the "confirmed" specs are to be believed, I am very glad they didn't go crazy with MP (22 MP) and improved the AF (61 Pt AF, same as 1Dx?).

I hope the rumor of $3500 price tag on the Canon is not true.
