I've found that Soundlabs in Sydney have Black Gate capacitors avialable for sale in small quantities ie enough for one amp. Which is very cool for anyone wanting to play further with your amp. There's also a wider range of some other seriously bonkers components such as silver wire resistors for spkr xovers........

www.soundlabsgroup.com.au

Check under 'components'

Be warned though.......the dollars involved for the BG's are enough to make your sphincter twitch. Where that leaves those silver wire resistors I'll leave to my imagination

If you reckon those Audio Consulting Silver Resistors are expensive just wait till you check out their range of timber potentiometer knobs.

Basically a nicely turned beech volume control knob with a little timber fillet to position the knob on your dial.  With a turned bronze core ('because bronze sounds best' - I'm not kidding) to fit the pot and a grub screw to hold it on. And you have to finish it with stain or estapol or whatever..........

.........and the price?

How does AU$845 sound? Eight hundred and forty five bucks. Just in case you though I'd forgotten a decimal point. Faaaaaaark       :finger:

It's making the the old AKSA look a little cheap

I've heard of this reseller in Sydney.

This is where I start to bristle with genuine anger.     This is silly money.

Cheers,

Hugh

I suspect that the nutters at Audio Consulting (who apparently make said knobs) could be partially responsible for that price too..........

Anyhow, everybody should have at least one laugh per day.  I've sure as heck had mine.

The Black Gate price seems to be quite reasonable.........

Well......

I said the BG prices at Soundlabs will make your sphincter twitch.

But it appears that they are fair enough when compared to the money requested from suppliers in the US and UK. In fact some seem to be a bit cheaper.  I suspect the catch is availability.

But boy oh boy they are still bloody pricey!!!!!!

The prices of the knobs seem expensive, but in fact they are not. I happen to hear from a reliable source (Pravda) that the man who is providing those knobs, has planted the trees themselves, some 30 years ago. He feeded and brought them up with the best cow manure he could find only from the offspring of Agro Acres Marquis Patsy, a Canadian Holstein, famous for her manure. He wiped the trees clean after every downpour, to mimise the terrible impact of vicious wood sucking  insects.
The trees are a certain kind of Spruce, specially selected for their audiophile qualities. However, Spruce from Denmark sounded different than from Australia. A rare breed out of Patagonia finally made it. The special sound characteristics will be destroyed if you handle or cut the wood with metal. Especially steel is hazardous for the fine delicate inner intrinsical nuances of the Spruce resonances. Axes are not allowed. Saws with an even amount of teeth made from asynchronous melted bronze (Federal-B bronze) is the only method to be used.
So it is not that expensive , is it?

I bet Norfolk Island Pine would make a great-sounding knob.

In fact, I've got one around the side if anyone wants to come and cut it down... it's a great business opportunity for you and I'll only charge you a couple grand for the wood

Oh yeah, I've nurtured it with, ah, kookaburra you know what...
