Typically when I build something electronic I like to take a couple thermal images as it can reveal defects unseen by the unaided eye. Here are a few examples from a Clarinet Linestage. Temperatures on the right are in Fahrenheit. One thing to note is I used a 10W wire wound resistor for the PS in place of the 5W ceramic resistor that was suggested by the manual. Probably not a good idea, I will likely go replace this part with the suggested one. These images were acquired 20 minutes after the unit was turned on. Other than a few warm resistors the unit says relatively cool. Those two rectifier diodes that appear hot are running cool also, they are picking up some radiant heat from that hot resistor.
Does anyone else do this stuff or am I the only one?
Brad
