WTB: VMPS Speakers
« on: 24 Jan 2012, 09:15 pm »
Posting for a friend. His RM2s got destroyed by movers, and he'd like to replace them. The insurance gave a check for $1800, so that's the top of the budget. Shipping or driving distance to Chicago please.

Thanks!

I just checked in and he says he can stretch the budget a bit, so about $2K is as high as he can go.  If you want to speak directly to him just PM me and I'll send you over his phone number.

Best,

Brax

Stock RM2's are as follows:

RM2 (spiral tweeter) = $2690 msrp

RM2 (FST Tweeter) = $3090 msrp

RM2jr (spiral tweeter/poly woofer) $1995 msrp

The above does not include any upgrades or options like Auricaps, TRT caps, OXO, DOXO, SR71, or Super Maxx Silver Wiring

I would provide a receipt (or get a receipt from VMPS) to the insurance company a put up a fight to get the current MSRP of $2690 or $3090 depending on the type of tweeter installed.  If you have personal property replacement cost on your homeowner's insurance you should be set.

Best of luck,

John

$1200 originally, then $1800 after a letter from an attorney. I think the price is fine for a used pair like (my friend) Brett's were, it's just hard to find a pair available.

I agree with you, and recommended doing so. However, he bought them used from a mutual friend that had upgraded to a new pair of 40's,  so he doesn't feel like it's fair to get more than he paid for them...just have to sit and wait for a pair to show up on the used market I guess. In fairness to John Casler, he has provided some great prices, but there's only so much he can do to bridge that price gap.

Best,

Check with Frank Alles (a reviewer) from Stereo Times.  I think he had a pair of RM2s and just replaced them with a pair of BCSE RM40's (like mine)  :thumb:

Look under contacts.

Not sure what he is doing with his RM2s.  Tell him I sent you.  They may already be spoken for, or he may want to keep them, but it is worth a post.

Best,
i can understand he doesn't want to screw anyone  but... it's not like he asked for them be damaged so he could get a windfall - he deserves to be made whole.  and, how long is he supposed to wait to find the replacement?  it's not like when you total your honda, and you can replace it in kind in a few days...

I have a pair of RM40's that I let go for $2500.  They come with FST tweeters, upgraded midbass, wave guides, and TRT caps.  I cant't ship as I don't have the shipping boxes.  I live in the atlanta area.

There's a very nice set of RM30's on Audiogon for $1700.  In North Carolina though, so shipping may bust the budget.

Oh yea!  These were on eBay, but the auction ended with no bids?!?  These are in AZ.  Now these are the ones to shoot for!!!  Seller had a BIN for $1050!!!  If I only had the money...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110820435334?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I "believe" these had the side mounted neo mids, with dual woofers, one top, one bottom, like a RM40.  Tweeters
in the middle between the woofers.  Might be worth a shot to email the seller directly, and make an offer.  Nothing to loose in trying.
