Any Spotify Users Out There? Share Your Fave Finds!
« on: 22 Jan 2012, 04:57 am »
I just have to proclaim that Spotify is the greatest thing that's happened to my listening habits and musical culture in a very long time. I'm just getting into so much great new stuff, so easily, and listening to it all on my beloved hifi system. When a friend recommends something new, within seconds I'm listening to the whole album!

Any of y'all discovering new music the same way? Anything great you'd like to recommend?

Hi
I was using Spotify like religion when I tried MOG and I now absolutely am blown away with the MOG interface and selection. Sound is truly  red book!
Spotify and MOG are now the way we do music in 2012!
They are very similar but MOG gets the nod for my casual listening.
Listening to early early Graham Nash live in some bar in England right now.

Yes, I've tried Mog as well and I like it, the streaming quality has the edge over Spotify, I believe. I went with Spotify because the selection is a bit better, Facebook integration is cool (friends and I send each other music to check out), and the mobile app is fantastic.

Vinatage tunes in an English pub sounds like a good time  :).

Any cool artists you've discovered lately?

I love spotify!! I agree it will change the way we listen to and find music. :thumb:
Do you know Rusted Root? They are from Pittsburgh, my home town.
Check em out. (Tribal Rock ,style I would call them) Must seem live too as they are awesome and coming up on a tour. I have seen them about 15 times, always amazed. Their studio work is very good and so is sound quality.

Anyone,
How does Mog sound in comparison to Pandora and/or Rhapsody?  Those are the two services I currently use and they sound awesome on my high end 2 channel set up.

To me in my own modest room MOG is heads and tales above most and slightly fuller than Spotify!
I listen most often with planar cans!

MOG sounds good, but I never tried Spotify for comparison. I read the comparison over on computer audiophile between the two and made my decision.

I used to subscribe to MOG and thought the sound quality was very good but had to cancel since my work place's network system blocks MOG.  I wanted to try Spotify but they mandate a Facebook account to sign up which I'm against for certain reasons.  To me the concept of Pandora is most appealing but the quality isn't on par.  So there's no perfect streaming service yet that I have found - always a dealbreaker for whatever reason.

On the home theater, the WD Media Player only does Pandora.
But on the desktop, it is Spotify all the way, love the quality and the whole album set up.

My Spotify find of the day (through a Facebook friend) is Silhouette Brown. Very inventive and sonically satisfying self-titled album from this R n' B  female singer/producer. Smooth, rich basslines throughout... loving this!

Just downloaded spotify onto my Mac Mini. I downloaded it onto my laptop when we were in Paris a few months ago but it registered in French and I gave up trying to change it. Unfortunately, I'm not that fluent in French.
Now I'll have to figure out if I can control it without a monitor as that's how I normally run the mini.

No problem, timind. I use remoteless myself, it's pretty good. Playlists sync and it has full search functionality. Should allow you to run Spotify on your headless Mini.

What's the quality like really? I like the concept but I swore off compressed audio years ago, even well before this current system build, even with PC speakers I prefer cd.

The days of the swirly, unlistenable 128 kbps (or worse- 96 :() are pretty much behind us. Spotify premium offers 320 kbps for many tracks, the rest (and all free version tracks) are streamed at 160 kbps. I have the premium service, and to my ear, most tracks are being served at 320, and that's a damn fine bitrate by any standard - I import my CDs to iTunes at 320 kbps, and my CDs don't sound that much better when I compare the two.

Remember, we're talking 18 million tracks, searchable by artist, album, and track. Pretty much anything you want to hear, instantly. It ain't hi-rez, but for a bit of a trade off in terms of resolution, it's freakin' tremendous.

Personally, I end up buying CDs that I fall in love with via Spotify, so in the end I have the redbook version as well.

I wonder what I'm going to do with all these cd's (the cost of all that still greatly exceeds the cost of my system) once I finally cross over.

CD bitrate/ depth is still what I prefer. I'm keepin' mine  :D
